Although lauded and celebrated in later life, Ali was hated by the press, politicians, BBC etc at the time. I remember Henry Cooper continuously and deliberately calling him "Clay" in a BBC interview. The US government was trying to jail him for refusing to go to to Vietnam. The attitudes shown in the interview were normality at the time. I always thought it was hypocrisy of the media to give him sainthood after death when they made his life hell at the time.

You can sense the disdain, fear and uncomfortableness he brought out in those who sought to disparage him. This man did so much to shape my personality and racial views over the years. A true American treasure. This great, agile mind, with a 5th grade reading level... ( and possible dyslexia ), could hold his convictions to anyone, kings or paupers. Notice also, how they try to confuse him by using his quotes against him, and by obfuscation, like that old man saying "that's not true" about racial identification and Ali shuts him down.
