And for those eager to jump in with the phrase , 'the statue was found the south of Spain therefore it is Punic. Let address this issue. According the Greek classical sources the Iberians are indigenous to the area; it is why we call Spain and Portugal as being the whole of Iberian peninsula. And yes the Carthaginians established trading posts. But the Greeks built colonies there as well as they also did in Southern coast of France. Neither makes France or Spain Punic or Greek

Good morning. I am a spanish historian. La dama de Elche is a funerary iberian statue from the Iberian people ( turdetanos, edetanos...) Who lived mainly in the mediterranean part of Spain before the arrival of the Romans. They are our ancestors. It has nothing to do with Atlantis or Punic invaders. By the way... It was discovered by a farmer Who was working in his plot. Spanish history is one of the most complicated histories in Europe, believe me.

But they look to be technological. Another thing I noticed was the statue appears to be looking down, which isn't shown in the recreation. The "looking down" likely has something to do with the reason and the purpose of the statue. Good work!

Major correction young lady. The Iberians are related to the Basques not the Semitic Punic people. The Iberians are indigenous to the Iberian Peninsula.
@owendewaal9805
2 жыл бұрын
Doesn't that depend entirely on what part of Iberia you'd be in? Carthaginian colonies along the coast would be more punic, but there was celtic populations inland and the Basques are an even older indigenous people that even predate indo-european settlement. This statue was found along the coast and quite snugly fits into the cultural art etc. belonging to the Carthaginians.

@@JonFrumTheFirst First the art work is uniquely Iberian, and therefor indigenous to Iberia(Spain and Portugal). Second the Phoenicians did settled in the area. However the Carthaginians established trading posts and formed alliances with local Iberian chieftains. Had you read the classical sources you would not have made an elementary mistake. And for comment regarding proximity, that the equivalent of stating native Floridians(inhabitants of State of Florida) are Cuban due fact Cubans settled in the state.
