The Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 1300 block of S Los Angeles St. Light Force 10 was first on scene reporting a one story row of commercials with heavy smoke showing. Companies began an offensive fire attack. The majority of the fire was located to the C (rear) side of the building.
Within 15 minutes two additional task forces were requested by the incident commander. Truck 10 & Truck 11 aggressively ventilated the roof to assist interior companies with locating the fire. The building was corrected to be a two story with the mezzanine containing heavy fire on the second floor. 10 minutes into the firefight two additional task forces (Light Force + Engine) were requested, an additional three were later requested.
The Incident Commander (Command 22) which was known as “LA IC” requested all companies off of the roof and out of the building due to firefighter safety concerns. Rapid intervention crews (RIC) were standing by for firefighter safety. Companies set up heavy flow hand lines from the exterior and ladder pipes to hit the fire from above.
Knockdown was eventually called in two hours and four minutes with no reported injuries. The commercial structure contained clothing and other materials. A total of 134 firefighters were assigned to this incident. Cause is under investigation.
