February 7th, 2020 LAFD Battalion 18 first on scene at “Venice Hotel” reported a two story motel with units fully involved with fire. Companies at 8686 West Venice Boulevard in Mid-City Los Angles requested three additional Task Forces on top of the original assignment. Firefighters encountered fire on both floors of the involved structure. Firefighters pulled unconscious persons from the building suffering from severe smoke inhalation. With several hand lines 105 Firefighters had the main bulk of fire knocked down in less than an hours time. Six persons were injured, two in grave condition and one person died in the 2 AM blaze. Approximately 25 people were displaced and the Red Cross was notified. Smoke damage to the building was extensive. Firefighters knocked down hot spots for several hours on the first, second floor and attic space above. Reportedly a space heater was the cause of this tragic deadly greater alarm blaze. - MNR -
