Just got my 1524 last week, love it! Turned a 13” live poplar edge bowl on it today. Getting ready for an art show in beginning of Sept. I have upgraded from an old Jet 1014. I will now use that for wood rings and smaller projects. I have ordered the add on extension for the 1524 so I can turn some even larger bowls and platters. Thanks so much for the video really fun to see another turners review and that you are thrilled with the purchase.

Just having reverse is a huge help with sanding. Makes it sooooooo much better.

I agree with you 100% CJ on how much reverse aides with sanding

Just a drop of dry lube on the threads took care of my tool rest and that problem

Great lathe Stuart. You did good. I like the fact it has the 1 1/4X 8 shaft. Sure looks like it will do everything you want. As far as the banjo goes mine clamps the same way. I could not see but under the handle on mine there is another bolt that adjust the fit of the tool rest shaft and it becomes easy to tighten it up. Happy for you my friend and enjoy the lathe, Gary

I've got the same lathe. I also got mine from Woodcraft, but in Birmingham. The only thing I don't like is the tool rest adjustment on the banjo. Otherwise I have been very pleased with it. My shop is also rather small and I couldn't put the 1836 in the shop. Happy Turning!

I agree that the tool post clamp is the only real short coming on it. I have to reef on the handle a lot more than I think one should.

Same experience, Stuart. Nova lost me with that BS. Horrible customer service making the consumer figure out snd take care of the shipping for them. Anyhow, glad you got your new lathe.

John, the shipping issue was mostly with Grizzly. The lathe to be drop shipped by a tractor-trailer truck and they wouldn’t deliver to my street because I live on a cul-de-sac. I would have to meet them several miles from my house at the local shopping mall so the truck would have room to maneuver. The other turn off was it was a discontinued model that required manual belt changes to change speeds. I was concerned about finding replacement parts if needed more than anything.

@@STMwoodturning yeah, I didn’t say that right at all. I had tried to order the nova lathe thru grizzly as well. When they told me something very similar, I switched to Laguna. The shipping company for that Laguna lathe even rolled the pallet up to my garage door. But yeah, it was grizzly that was gonna leave me hanging…so I was done looking at the nova lathe. Love their chucks/etc though. 😂
