Video #3 of 4 (4/9/2023):
In which you can see a piece of Lake Wales Ridge (LWR), aka a Sandhill community. The LWR refers to a geological site found in Central Florida, and it stretches 100 miles north and south. It is one of the only parts of Florida that was never underwater millions of years ago. That being said, the Ridge is home to a number of endangered, threatened, and endemic plants. One of them includes the Florida Ziziphus.
This type of land is suitable for development because of its coarse sand in addition to the xeric soil moisture. Even though this area can experience several inches of rain per year, you wouldn't even think that it would've happened. The soil is very well-drained. Given that it's also wildlife wednesday, the Gopher Tortoise loves this form of habitat.
Turkey Oak makes an appearance, too!
