How do you feel about the Lakers (finally) hiring JJ Reddick? And how do you feel about the rumored coaches they have interest in to put around him? Comment down below! Thanks for watching! Don't forget to drop a like + subscribe if you have not already :)

You summed it up pretty well in your clip. Bickerstaff and Rond could help a lot if they could rope them in. Especially Rondo who, like J.J has a very high basketball I.Q. I also believe that, just as he did in 2020 Jared Dudley would help somewhere along the bench and in the locker room as well. Also as you stated, J.J is also going to need an assistant coach who is defensive minded only to help stabilize all the offensive fire power that they will have with both J.J and Rondo who were both mainly offensive minded players in the league. Regardless and no matter who they get his is a very high risk/high rewards roll of the dice which is either going to bite the Lakers in the a$$ once again. Or hitting Reddick could be the best coaching decision they make since they hired Phil Jackson! Only time will tell what we will get. On a positive note I'm happy that they got rid of Ham regardless of who they have now because Ham definitely did not utilize what he has to it's max potential while he was there. Which was frustrating on an almost nightly basis when factoring in his roster lineups, lack of call usage etc.

Rondo? LA is one firecracker away from nuclear explosion. What happens next year when they are 18-22 at break? The nonsense Redick spouts off to please Lebron. That will get old fast. What happens when Lebron feels like his son should get minutes. All I ask is don’t send him to Dallas. What will Redick say when Lebron gets angry at him the first time and says, you are only here because I brought you here.

I'm pretty confident JJ is a good hire. the fact he's a stat head means he's already better than some coaches who are still against stats (looking at you, Billups). getting Rondo to coach is great too. and Dudley, while not a great basketball player, must be a great presence in the lockerroom. he could only have stayed that long in the NBA by being a great teammate. you need guys like him to translate genius basketball speak to role players. another former player whom I think will be a good addition to the coaching staff is Shane Battier. this guy literally started Miami's 27 win streak with a speech. a guy that could inspire a team like that is precious. and he's a basketball savant too and highly analytics-minded. as for JJ's assistant coach, I'd look into poaching Dan Craig or Ron Adams. heck, i'd even look overseas to coaches like Ataman or Obradovic.

Most coaches can design an offense with spot up shooters. It's why most of the offenses in the NBA are the same cookie cutter offense. An offense that generates high volume of open 3 pointers doesn't make it a good offense. Matter fact, some of the best offenses shot moderate amounts of 3 pointers, just enough to keep defenses honest, but alot had a good amount of movement to get open inside looks. Most of the good modern offenses have elements of some of the best old school offenses. Modern offenses have more stretch bigs, but stretch bigs doesn't make your offense better. In the early 2000s, the best offenses were Phil's Triangle, Pop's motion offense, whatever it was called, and the King's Princeton offense (when the Kings were elite). All of them were motion offenses, but they still ran Pick n Roll mixed in. Steve Kerr's motion offense is a Princeton hybrid, and Kerr played in Phil's Triangle as well, so he knew that motion offenses were for most part superior offenses. Before Steve Kerr, the 'Modern NBA' offense was the same as your typical old school PnR offense, with the only difference being your PF was a stretch 4. D'antoni was the leading inventor of this, but in the end, it was still just a PnR (pick n roll) offense, and PnR gets countered by switching everything. Motion offense punish over switching / rotations better than any offense, and it's why teams that had not just PnR offense, but also a motion offense, were able to form dynasties. So Steve Kerr's offense became the poster boy for the 'modern NBA', but most teams didn't really understand why the Warrior's offense was so good. Most people just thought...they shoot a lot of 3s, so if we shoot a lot of 3's, we will also have success. What they did not understand is that the Warriors were able to consistently get good looks for their best players, which happened to be elite 3 point shooters. Most teams that chuck a lot of 3s, do it because any player on their team has an open look, even if they are the 3rd to 5th best player in a unit. This leads to defenses being able to force kick out passes, and role players being tasked with keeping defenses honest, and the star players would either lose their rhythm, or take some rough shots in order to try to maintain it. The Warriors motion offense was able to get open 3 point looks for their stars who the opposing defense was targeting, which is opposite of PnR heavy offenses, which the 3 pointers are most kick outs to players the defense is not targeting. This allowed Curry and Klay (also KD), so not just provide spacing, but also keep their rhythm by not being taken out of the play. This meant that it wasn't just the Warriors taking 35+ 3 pointers a game, but over half of those 3 pointers were coming from their star players. You can't say the same thing of PnR heavy teams, who's stars have to kick out to role players, who shoot the majority of those 3s. Most of those role players do not have ice in their veins, and are not dependable most times, or they would at least be fringe stars. So the Warriors motion offense not only had a high quantity of 3s, but the most superior quality of 3s. So most of these so called 'modern offenses' are actually not optimal modern offenses. The best 'modern' offense are actually not fully reliant on running PnR, and you'll here things like, the 5 out or 4 out motion offense, and so teams that are running motion offenses are the success stories of the 'modern offense' even though there is nothing modern about a motion offense, because they have been used for decades. The Triangle is more of a 3 out, with emphasis on post players, which is what I think the Lakers are actually suited for from a personnel perspective, so I really don't think the Lakers should be forcing themselves to get certain personnel just to chuck more 3s. They should be focusing on implementing an offense that makes the best use of their 2 superstars, which is an offense based more on inside out play rather than outside in play. The Lakers had offensive issues in the 2nd half against the Nuggets in the playoff series, because they were only optimized for PnR offense. The Lakers did have a 5 out motion offense in play, but it didn't work against the Nuggets, because the Lakers don't have the players to optimize the 5 out, meaning they ran a poor man's version of it, and that's why they struggled. The Lakers were better off running a 4 out, like a Princeton, which they ran in Darvin Ham's first year. Matter fact, I think the 5 out is not the best motion offenses have to offer, because you are relying on someone having to beat their man off the dribble to get the ball rolling, because there is no one at the elbow or in the paint threatening the defense. The defense has everyone in front of them, which makes it easy to see everything. So now for some past coaches, when they talked about modernizing the Lakers offensively, I knew they wouldn't last long, because they had a misunderstanding of the 3 point shooting and what it does for spacing, but to be fair, while Vogel and Ham started off thinking about shooting more 3s, ultimately they found out the Lakers were better when they shot less 3s, and just attacked more, because that's what their stars do well. If the Lakers bring anymore shooters in, those shooters are likely role players, and even Trae Young, if they get him, is more of an attacker than 3 point shooter in terms of efficiency. So don't go running an offense that needs shooting and perimeter footspeed to open things up, because your two best stars, who are your reliable ones, don't do that. This was the Laker's issue that last couple of years; running an offense catered more towards shooting, and when LBJ or AD were forced to pass out, the win condition became our role players knocking down 3s, when while it should contribute to winning, shouldn't be our win condition. We needed an offense that can get AD and LBJ their best spots at most times, so that defenses aren't forcing us to take 3 pointers to win games. LBJ having an open 3 pointer for a game winner in game 2 vs the Nuggets, is not a sign of optimal design for our stars. The fact that AD just got doubled all the time, and the only answer was to kick out to role players was not the answer. Role players are very important and have to hit shots, but they answer to one star getting countered should be the other star punishing the counter. The Triangle offense would allow the Lakers to do this. The offense the Lakers were running allowed AD and LBJ to get countered at the same time, and the role players had to be the counter punch, but because they are role players after all, you cannot rely on them to come through most of the time. So when I heard that JJ wants to modernize our offense, I shook my head, because Ham was running modernized offense, just wasn't the right one. However, because I heard AD wanted 3-4 players always in motion, and I didn't hear anything about chucking more 3s in order to be modern, I gained some hope that JJ might just do fine. I'll hold my judgment until I hear his press conference tomorrow. Just to clarify, I'm not against shooting offense, but I'm strongly in favor of playing the offense that fits your stars rather than forcing an offense on a team just because another team, who has different personnel, plays the offense so well. THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SKIN A CAT...remember that.

Laker nation we are in for a special season. It might look chaotic now, but I firmly believe in JJ. We have AD, vando, Gabe, and Max who are all defensive-minded. What we didn't have in the 2023 playoffs we have now, experience. The Denver team played together for over 3-5 years before they won. The team has now been together for over a season and a half. Let's not forget that we could have beaten Denver if our roleplayers (Rui, Dlo, and Gabe) played to their best abilities, which was not the case. Darwin cost us that series, he has been out coach in every playoff series and they still managed to get to the WCF last year. I think we have many reasons to be excited for the coming season.
