The Boyes Drives fire on the 16th January was within TMNP and SANParks therefore took overall command and control of the fire.
The WoF helicopters that worked at the fire was dispatched by TMNP from the Newlands Fire Base (except for the two QRF helicopters that was dispatched from Stellenbosch). The crews that attended to the fire, NCC Environmental Services, WoF and the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) were all dispatched by TMNP and worked under the direct command of the TMNP Incident Commander.
The NCC Environmental Services crews are under contract with SANParks and are referred to as the TMNP-NCC Contract crews - within TMNP these crews are always the first responders, and depending on the situation and location of the fire, these crews will be supplemented by crews from WoF and the VWS.
Due to the quick reaction from TMNP and the rapid response and deployment of the aerial and ground resources the Boyes Drive fire was contained within a relatively short period of time.
