LaLa Brooks looks great. Black women don't age badly, she looks like she's in her 40s. It's time for The Crystals to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with The Ronettes, The Chiffons, and The Shirelles (if their not already.)

What I find amazing is that all those lead singers from the 1960s had their own individual sounds and styles. Today all these bitches seem to be doing gymnastics with their voices and they all sound helplessly alike.

Good to know I'm not the only one to give in to the never ending peer pressure of drugs and alcohol. Stay strong and be you without that shit. And you can see how it kept her awesome even now. Good on her!

La La Brooks wasn't always the lead singer of the Crystals' records. Barbara Alston sang lead on "Uptown" and "He Hit Me." La La did not sing lead on their first hit called Oh Yea Maybe Baby. La La did not sing lead on "There's No Other Like My Baby." And of course we all know by now that a non group member sang lead on He's A Rebel.

Darlene Love did sing her part in "He's a Rebel" by the Crystals written by Gene Pitney. Phil Spector must have been in a big hurry to record the song. The real Crystals may not have been available at the time. It reached #1 and strangely enough it blocked the song Gene Pitney sang to #2 "Only Love Can Break a Heart." This was in the fall of 1962.

The Crystals were on tour and another singer (Vikki Carr) was about to record and release He's a Rebel. So Phil used whoever was available in the studio to record He's A Rebel ASAP before Vickii Carr released her version.

Natives and half breed natives in Grant County New Mexico went though segregation as well (Hispanics) yet no one ever talks about it (Early to mid 1900's). My mother said there were Spanish American and White bathrooms and in movie theaters. They were usually half breed Indians. She told me there was only one black man in her town and to her knowledge he was treated well?

Diane Chavez share but it was the African Americans who had the boots on the ground getting their fingers dirty, dying for the rights of all ethnic minorities. There is little appreciation from other ethnic minorities of the sacrifices that African Americans made to ensure that they enjoy the equal opportunities that they receive today.

Darlene Love couldn't carry a tune in a bushel basket. That is why she was, and always will be, a backup singer.
