I'm in love with what I'm seeing! I just love this early 3D/2.5D engine look, trying to make real-life locales, and the uncanny look the lack of polish gives to it all. It's trying to look realistic, but ends up being rather abstract and my creativity goes wild. On top, the weird mechanics and interactions, the player unfriendliness, makes it feel like it's its own world instead of a game level catered to the player (even though it is)... I played all the way through TekWar, most of Island Peril and Incidente em Varginha just for this kind of thing, and Lameduke here looks right up my alley

Something I always felt, which has been made even stronger by your much more thorough breakdown of LD than I was able to piece together when experiencing LD on my own, is that the focus between LD and what we would eventually get in the final game are on different things. Final Duke 3D put the focus on the individual locations, that is, the levels, with the setting of Los Angeles mostly being background flavor. We have move theaters, restaurants, office buildings, etc. Stuff that's fairly ubiquitous and instantly recognizable to anyone and everyone. Early Duke 3D, meanwhile, seemed to put the setting of Los Angeles at a macro level in the forefront. Things were tailored more specifically to L.A. itself, and specifically this dystopian run-down cyberpunk version of it. The levels themselves were more generic in terms of place (probably why there were so many basic factory areas). In the end I think they definitely made the right choice in making the level locations the star of the show as opposed to L.A., especially for the era. That said, I would love a take on this general theme now that technology has caught up to the point where this style could be showcased better.

I'm guessing the name for this one has something to do with the old myth(?) that cockroaches would survive a nuclear bomb, or something? Just speculating though! Thanks for the comment dude! :)

Can't wait for more... Well, Episode 2 is technically the original Episode 1 of Lame Duke, and has the oldest levels there, so much so that M8 is still using an older version of the map format. I definely used to keep trying to explore the Lame Duke prototype, but, i had Shadow Warrior prototype fatigue and was super tired at this point, i guess you're the one who's exploring the most of it, so much so that you brought up the old story of D3D that i was never aware of, and that's something i can thank for.

@@RaposaCadela Hmmm, yeah i kept playing and playing and playing the September 1995 prototype, i don't think there is much else to explore, even for maps, but even some SW beta maps aren't even that known, like the February '95 build has plenty of maps, but, you can't access them unless you re-name, i actually made an "ultimate patch" per say for the September '95 one, and, uhhhh, gave instructions there, and made a full walkthrough of it without cheating, and progressing normally. (no starting weapons start in each level) It was seriously exhausting to keep playing the game without dying once, to record, all in one sitting, despite there only being 8 levels, and it's right in when i was finishing the patch up.

I'd love to incorporate the sounds into my videos... but in Lameduke I'm finding... there's basically no ambient sounds? Like... there's Duke picking up items, Duke shooting guns, ... and Going Down the Fast Way. Which is awesome but, I'm not sure if I can make a video about it. I'll look into it... We'll see. I wonder what order these were made in? I know it's presented in LameDuke as episode 2, but some of the levels here feel more raw and like the designers are still figuring out what to do with the game engine, while those in episode 1 are much more refined.
