There is another detail as well: The Revised Version of the Song, can be considered to be from the Perspective of the Civilians the Lamenters saved, while the Original, can be considered to be from the Perspective of the Lamenters themselves. Other chapters will fold and buckle with the curse the Lamenters have. Loyal, brave, and empathetic. And yet despite being trampled upon by so many of their fellow Astartes, Despite so much overwhelming losses, misfortune after misfortune, and Battles that continued to whittle them down, they still embody what the Emperor said when he made the Space Marines : "They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity." Every single human civilian, regardless of his or her role, is part of humanity itself. There is no strategic and tactical value for what they do, they care not for the accolades they might gain, nor even remembrance for their deeds. While everyone else goes for glory to further their own chapters and themselves, the Lamenters find their glory risking and going so far as to throw their lives to save people. When the lyrics mentioned to make their deaths worth the price and to use the time they bought, they knew they will all die and accepted it. They cared not even to be remembered and simply wished for them to live. And that was enough for them. In a setting that was perpetually dark, Lamenters are one of the small fireflies that give off a glimmer of hope. If there was anyone who would ask me who the good guys were, I'd proudly mention that the few who carry that mantle includes the Sons of Sanguinius. That one Chapter with the checkered pauldron with a heart in the middle, that one chapter who gladly gave their lives, and will continue to do so, not for the sake of pride and accomplishment, but for doing and being what the other Astartes chapters should aspire to be. Battered, broken, but unfailingly loyal not only for the Emperor and his cause, but for Humanity and its lives as well. For those we cherish, we die in glory!

This is from the eyes of one of the rescued boys who got saved by the last Lamenter company from the original version of this song, who is following in the same steps as the brave men who sacrificed themselves for other. Like a tragic, yet, inspiring cycle. An ouroboros of heroism! And the TTS chanting… it sounded so different, but still familiar. - The new background images are dope af. Only the camera panning of the second shot (where you see all the marines in line) was better in the original : it went from the civilians to the marines, from the evacuation to the actual combat, as in "okay they are evacuating, time to start the party boys". - The singing voice is pretty good/nice to listen to. Same goes for the music. - Still, the original's version felt more desperate (despite the same lyrics being used in both cases), which is more fitting I guess. This one feels more heroic. It's pretty hard to describe. In the original, it felt like a warrior was singing while fighting. Here, it feels like a singer is, well, singing. TL;DR : Pretty good. Interesting to get alternate versions. Don't do that for Raylanor's Last Stand tho, it is simply perfect (it's my canon voice for Fulgrim) :P

Ok I’m not a music man so bare with me. In the last verse we hear rapid drumbeats then we hear dings and after each ding the drum beat slows down and lessens. What does this mean? The drumbeats are gunfire and the dings are marines dying, lessening the amount of gunfire. What adds to this is we hear the ding before he says “somehow beside me, i see one of us on our knees.” It’s literally their armour being struck.

Seeing the Lamenters using a mix of Aquila, Corvus and ever Crusader pattern armor is both awsome to see but also a string reminder of their standing in the Imperium, the fact they are still using Crusader patterned armor despite how ANCIENT that armor probably is yet the captain still wears it with honour.

@@vitaliitomas8121 I would say it sounds like a recruit telling the tale rather then a song from one of the lamenter marines. Both are good they just don't sound that same.
@michimatsch5862

@@vitaliitomas8121 not sure "strong" is the word I'd use. The...vocals don't feel as emotional in this one as the last one. I am unsure whether this is due to song direction (how the guy was told to sing) or the singer not having the same range, etc. Don't feel like I know enough about music to really find the right words but in the original I felt the singer going from pain, to anger, to pride, etc. while singing. Here it just feels like it's always the same baseline emotion.

I liked how soft he is, it feels like a dramatic retelling of a desperate and glorious last stand. :)

I got to say that I love both versions The first one is way more desperate and fitting for the situation (but I got to admit I'm not entirely drawn to the strain in the singer's voice on the higher pitches) This one feels more glorious and retrospective like a tale told years after (and hot damn the singer killed it in this version, I could barely find anything to be annoyed by in his performance, big props)

to be fair, Corgi wanted to go for the higher pitches for the original song

I disagree with those who say that "In 40k, no good deed goes unpunished" For, the act of punishment implies wrongdoing. However, I see nothing wrong with dying to fight the dying of the light, even when your own brothers and fathers are against you. If anything, that is an act that deserves an overwhelming count of honor and praise. Warhammer 40k doesn't punish the Lamenters. It simply doesn't deserve them.

my interpretation of this is the first version was the lamentors singing during the actual event, this is the story being retold by the surviving civilians to immortalize theirs saviors, hence why its more noble sounding and less desperate

As another comment put it. This rendition is heroic and almost triumphant, while the original is more desperate and defeated. This rendition is how those the Lamenters saved will remember them, as heroes and champions. The original may be what happened, but this is how it will be remembered

Some people disagree with the changes, but then again the battle cry of the Lamenters is "For those we cherish, we die in glory." Yes the Lamenters are not ones to simply seek glory for the sake of it, but they still see fighting for the people as the highest honor there is...

At first I was iffy on this but as I continued to listen I felt that this version felt more like an actual song and started to get into it. The original felt like someone recounting a story with music in the background but this one felt like the music stepped up to be on par with the singing and the lyrics, taking the song to the next level. I like this version a lot personally, great work!

I couldn't resist: "I'm Sorry. it should've never come to this" Lycus, captain of the 9th company said as we watched the final transport leave the spaceport, a speck among the dust and smoke rising high into the sky. The words the captain spoke were directed at all of us....and yet, I still felt it was directed specifically to me, the only Guardsman among these angels. "It is our duty brother captain." one of the wounded marines replied loading a final magazine into his weapon, barrel glowing from having been used for over an hour with little time to cool. All the surviving marines, just 20 of the 100 that landed just three hours ago gave their sounds of agreement. After a moment of quiet with only the noise of lasguns, slug throwers and bolters beyond the crest, I felt the need to add my own voice. "Look how far we've come, Captain." The marines turned to me and beyond, the captains helmet was in the way but I felt his eyes on me, I continued emboldened as a flame that had ignited when they first landed turned into a blaze to rival the emperors light. "We have lost many, yes, and many, many more..." I choked slightly, thinking of my friends, comrades and family that I lost to these...*monsters* But I continued after clearing my throat "and yet, look how far we've come, how much we have fought, how far we have *pushed them back*!" I held up a finger and pointed to the spaceport. "But think of all of those we saved, many hundreds of thousands that the Imperium was ready to write off, they survived because of us!" I looked at my feet, where the banner of the 9th company lay, the marine carrying it having passed minutes ago. I gingerly and reverantly took the flag from his hands and lifted it up high, where even our enemies could see it. "They fear us, captain, we have bore such a deep wound into the hearts of these monsters they will remember it for *eternity*! " Many roars of approval came from the marines surrounding me, my heart pounding I looked at the banner in my hands. "I am but a lowly human girl surrounded by Angels, I was a coward and I have no place among such mighty heroes, And yet I feel I belong nowhere else then here, *this* is where I can finally do something that matters." I walked up beside the towering form of the captain, still holding the banner high "Our hearts burn with the glory of the Emperor, and while they can take our lives, They cannot take this light." The captain had a smile to his voice, a sad one, but a smile none the less. "You belong here as much as any of our brothers," he turned to the other marines, preparing themselves to make their final charge over the hill. "For those we cherish!" He shouted We all replied "We die in glory!" This final act was recorded by the camera attached to major Wehrmann's helmet, it was later discovered when the planet was retaken by the combined efforts of the Astra Militarum, Space wolves, Ultramarines and Salamanders. All filmed were killed in their final charge, however when forces of the Salamanders made planetfall in this area they found a field of thousands of dead heretics, mixed with bodies in yellow armor. The 9th company banner, meanwhile, was standing proudly atop the hill, claiming final victory. Additionally, it was being firmly held in place by the corpse of the Major who refused to let it go, even in death. Their story shall be recorded and the banner sent to the Lamenters under guard of Sister Tabica of our martyred lady after it has been repaired. ~ Inquisitor Janick
