Great video explaining “Scribing”. I install lots of cove vinyl and scribing is key to making a nice pattern and beautiful finish product. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Thank you for the great idea. What did you use to cut your actual laminate pieces?

I use different tools to cut laminate depending on the type of cut. For long straight cuts, I use a straight-edge and a scoring tool. Take a look at my Basic Laminate Installation video here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqijnIpmhKt_gno There are links in the description to various specialty tools that I use. Thank you.

Where does one find that aluminum trim piece (what’s it even called?) that is on the top edge of that coved vinyl flooring? My counters have a similar trim on the 4” backsplash, there’s even an aluminum cove in the transition from the counter top to the backsplash. I can’t seems to find that stuff anywhere, and I like the look of it. Thanks again!

Those are called cap and cove. The cap for vinyl is a different size to accept the thicker material. They were always supplied by the floorcovering store who provided the laminate. This looks like the one for plastic laminate www.tools4flooring.com/futura-3-32-silver-square-metal-cove-cap-12-length.html Thank you!

@@elbowshots thanks again! I live in the middle of nowhere, and the two supply stores, Menards and Williston Home and Lumber, have no clue what I’m asking for, even with me showing them pictures. All the OG contractors are gone, replaced by out of state contractors, and none of which are interested in little jobs like mine. So I’ll do it myself! I really appreciate you answering my questions!

Why can’t the tops just be removed to fit laminate?
@elbowshots
Жыл бұрын
That is an option. These two small tops could be removed, and the backs trimmed to fit. Making a pattern is the quickest and easiest way for me. Potential challenges when removing the tops: The existing laminate conceals the fasteners that are holding the sub-tops to the cabinets. They are most likely secured with finish nails, but they may also be nailed down with ring shanks, or screwed down. They also may have been glued. So, there is a risk of damaging the cabinets. The tops are easier to work with when they are secured to the cabinets. They don’t move. These tops were getting a scribe fit laminate backsplash, which is only the thickness of the laminate, so I needed a tight fit. To reinstall the tops, they would have to be glued (which requires its own setup time) or secured with brackets from underneath. I have been using patterns for irregular shapes and tough layouts for many years. It’s just natural for me. Thank you!
