Ultraviolence is one of my favourite albums, she got hate for "romanticizing abuse" however a victim can tell their story however they feel and I think she represented the cycle of abuse and the emotion behind it so well.

Weird fact: the male vocals that come in at the end of Brooklyn Baby were supposed to be recorded by Lou Reed, but unfortunately, he passed away the day before he was supposed to come to the studio. It would have been fucking awesome. Lou Reed was the lead singer for the Velvet Underground, one of my faves. Brooklyn Baby was written as a satirical look at the hipster kids that came to New York with their extensive jazz record collections, penchant for beat poetry, and hydroponic weed.

Idk if anyone has mentioned this but “The Other Woman” is actually a cover originally sung by jazz artist Nina Simone
@oliviarivera3680

@@scorpiosun4 yes but this is a cover of Nina Simone’s version. It’s like when someone says they are singing “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston because it’s her version they are covering. It’s just a way of phrasing it.

No matter how many times I have listened to the song ultraviolence it ALWAYS hits me really hard. I cry every single time. The play on "I can hear (police) sirens sirens violins violins" instead of 'violence' n how her mind changes the police sirens sound to violins to protect herself, and the "we can go back to the start when I don't know who you are" -wish I had never even known you and the "I could have died right there in his arms b/ he was right beside me"- he could have literally killed me right there; "Jim taught me that loving him was never enough"- learning that no matter how much I loved it was never enough for you. ahhh I can go on n on, it always gets to me

She's come along way in terms of songwriting since this album (some of these lyrics are kinda ehhhhh), but I loved ultraviolence when it came out (fun fact: it was produced by dan auerbach from the black keys). it's probably my favourite older album of her's, and west coast is one of my favourite songs by her. you should definitely check out her newest album at some point

I have only seen your two Lana reactions and I think these two are the albums you're gonna enjoy the most. The guitar gets you everytime, and as much as I love it too, it's hard to find rock-ish songs in her discography like the ones you heard. But I really love her piano & vocals songs cause I think it elevates her message, her poetry. Her next album after Ultraviolence is Honeymoon (my all time favorite, btw).

Personally my favourite album of hers. She incorporates a lot of different elements into her music so you have people who like her for certain things, I personally love when she brings out her angst and hurt in a dark and abrasive tone like in this album. Wish she would do almost like a rock album.

I agree with you about NFR. This album blew my mind when it came out 10 years ago. It’s a totally different sound from her first album which was an unexpected surprise, from that moment on I knew she was a true artist. Here’s my top 4 Lana albums: 1. Born to Die - listening to it now still sounds so fresh. The fact that it’s consistently on the Billboards Top 200 since its release on 2012 says a lot about it. 2. Honestly it’s a tie between this and Honeymoon. To me, Honeymoon is like Ultraviolence’s calmer sister. I gravitate more towards one album depending on the season and my mood 😂. I think Honeymoon had the same producers with Ultraviolence, maybe that’s why to me they’re like sisters lol. 3. Did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean boulevard - this album is beautiful. From how it was produced to her heart wrenching song writing, it’s just a near perfect album. This album really shows how she matured from 2012’s Born to Die, and I love how she incorporated different sounds throughout her different eras into one album and made it work so beautifully. 4. NFR - I really like this album too, the song writing is beautiful. But sonically it doesn’t really fit with my taste, but that’s just me. I find myself gravitating towards the other 3 albums more. Btw, Loving your reviews.
