Thank you very much for sharing this. Truly a joy to watch! Makes you appreciate how advanced they were at the time, and how they still stand up very well against modern offerings.

Ugh, now I need to sell my Mooney….. I miss these days when kitplanes were the bleeding edge of technology. Now everyone is making back country STOL aircraft. I live in the Midwest. Nothing is close to here, so we need fast aircraft! These fast glass planes were so awesome. Maybe Dark Aero will be the new Lancair.

DA appears to be doing just that. It's embodied the wishlist of every EAA pilot, except price. But has added the Pilatus style landing gear for absorbing harder impacts and rougher strips. And split flaps for low tech, flutter resistant, mild lift enhancement. I personally like split flaps, I like seeing them return. It is going to be HOT though. Much hotter than the moderately-high wing loading might suggest. (For reasons relating to Reynolds number and the chosen airfoil family) And it's Vr is going to be breathtaking at max gross wt. Barely any fun off of grass, I suspect. It's probably tailored more for >4,000' paved.

RED: one day Lance Neibauer sat down with me at the cafe shop in Santa Paula airport and asked me „what color should I paint the new 320?“ I said: „if you wanna hit the cover of every aviation magazine, make it RED? Lance did not like the idea due to UV and temperature concerns. I said: „the proof is the wooden RED GP4 of George Pereira. George made it on every front page!“ A few weeks later the prototype was painted RED 🥂😍🤩😎🚀
