Bus conductor in the 60's. Couldn't have written it better if I had tried. Then 40 yrs. later, driver, & collecting fares. The job hasn't changed!! Neither has the public!!!

Thanks for this blast from the past! I used to have the vinyl, but it has disappeared from my house. Nice to hear this again.

Being an ex bus conductor from the early 60's I really 'got' this song when it came out. Whether he would have got away with the Indian bus conductor nowadays? Great songs way back when. We had them all, comedy, pop, classical, ballads.

From the days of the two man crewed, open rear platformed, "Routemaster" double decker. Should be played with Flanders and Swanns "A Transport of Delight".

My brother loves buses and collects model ones and anything related to them. I don't know whether he's heard this though. Ironically, he's the same age as the song.

I plead generalisation. 98% of people would call them all Routemasters if pushed to identify them beyond "buses", if only because "Routemaster" has become the iconic name for buses that shape, and even QI has got the RT and Routemaster confused.

Not a Routemaster at all. This is an RT as in "Summer Holiday" which still significantly outnumbered the Routemasters in 1965.
