I’ve owned my Ralliart for a few years now and here’s some cold weather advice. Make sure to swap the ACD pump from under the car and into the hatch. 16” wheels/tires are cheaper replacements. The transmission cooler sits behind the driver side fog light can get corroded over time and leak. Upgrading it is a good option. The plastic undercarriage shield might fall apart and can be upgraded to a thicker gauge option. Companies like Clubspec Chitown Customs specialize specifically on the Ralliart platform.

You should get your transmission ECU flashed to include Super-Sport mode like the Evo MR has. It uses more clutch pressure therefore allowing less slip, which equals longer clutch life. It also allows for much faster, crisper shifts, also prolonging clutch life; not to mention better throttle response and of course a more fun driving experience.

Wish they would’ve offered this vehicle with a traditional manual transmission. I would recommend rebuilding the twin clutch trans if you want more power or it will overheat. Also do the trans fluid & trans filter changes before the service intervals in your maintenance manual!!! Mitsu was optimistic about how long the fluid is good for. Gets dirty super fast.

I thought it was dumb that Mitsubishi only sold it with the Getrag flappy-paddle transmission. The car could have been lighter and less expensive if they just put in a wide-ratio 5-speed. Or, heck, the 6-speed they sold in the Evo IX had a torque rating too low for the 4G63, but a tranny that strong would have been fine with the Ralliart engine.

For anyone interested, VW DSG fluid is exactly the same as the Diaqueen SST-F1 that Mitsubishi sells and it costs 1/4 -1/3 as much. I now have over 100,000KM on my SST running DSG fluid with no ill effect and the much lower price has allowed me to do changes more often and really isn't hard to do yourself. I'd say most people put off doing the fluid change because of the absurd cost at the dealership. When I first called for a quote I actually thought they were quoting me the price of a new transmission or a rebuild or something, could'nt believe it. Recommended interval for "spirited" driving is 45,000KM, anecdotally I'd recommend half that.

There was quite a good comparison video of the Evo X & Lancer Ralliart, they had them both up on ramps so you could see the differences, there were a lot. The suspension is totally different, much more complex in the Evo, the engine & SST gearbox and a few of the body parts were shared but surprisingly little else, you would have thought more shared parts would have kept the costs down.

Maybe its the added steel for the "hatch" body? Id assume more sound deadening would be needed too since the whole cabin is exposed to the exhaust and rear wheels whereas a sedan doesnt need to sound deaden the trunk because its a seperate compartment.

@@PenguinGaming IDK, I think the hatch body is the length of the sedan, with the trunk cut off. Maybe they had to reinforce it to make up for having an opening so much bigger than the trunk. The SST transmission is much heavier than the GSR's 5-speed. More glass (sunroof and hatch) and more frame and bodywork for the hatchback should make up your extra weight. If the sunroof is powered, those mechanisms will add further weight. It also wouldn't surprise me if some parts on the GSR are lighter specifically for the purpose of minor weight savings as it is intended to be a more performance focused model.

The Ralliart Sportback's weight is actually 3,572 lb for the Sportback and much less for the Sedan (3462). Sedan vs sedan, the Ralliart is a lighter than a GSR (3517) and much lighter than an MR (3594 lb).

I have an Evo X, and I wondered what it would be like having the Ralliart instead. Wouldn't the hatchback body be way more convenient than having my battery and washer bottle in the trunk? Would the smaller turbo and different gear ratios make it more responsive? How many mpg would I gain with that tall 6th gear? Then we get to the question of: When a noisy diesel pickup challenges me at a traffic light, would I still be able to leave him behind? Probably not. When that "Hemi" Ram was showing off how loud his engine was, and the highway opened up for us, would I still be able to *beat him up and take his lunch money?* Or maybe this is the more important question: Is the Evo X or the Ralliart more fun on a mountain road with nobody around? At some point I remember the Ralliart came with a flappy-paddle tranny, and then my 5-speed Evo seems like more of a drivers car.

With snow tires it was an absolute monster in the snow -- genuine limited-slip differentials front, center, and rear with none of that fake "torque-vectoring" nonsense where they're actually locking up various wheels to shift torque around. That said, it was a crude, buzzy machine and I just needed something a little more grown up. Great year-round budget weekend toy with 90% of the Evo's performance at two-thirds the price... not so great as a daily driver. And yes the SST is a dog off the line, thinking WAY too long and too hard about what to do when you step on it off the line. I wish it would have come with the Evo's launch control. The secret to a decent launch is give the gas pedal two or three aggressive stabs to rev it up before planting your foot.

After owning an 04 Ralliart, WRX, EVO X, and an EVO 8, I can say that this Ralliart is a very smart buy. It's easily upgraded with parts from the EVO while maintaining its usefulness as an everyday driver. Good choice.

check out the "Ralliart Revoulution" page on facebook. There is hundreds of ralliart owners on there and every single one of them is only there to help. shit talking and trolling is not tolerated so it makes it one of, if not, the best car forum page to be a part of.

Hello, i have an 09 ralliart, i am glad to see it getting recognition in this video. There are lots of fairly cheap upgrades possible. Andrew pye sells a 6 piston brembos big brake kit, evo x rear brakes bolt on directly with minor modifications Used evo x intercooler and about 200$ in other parts, plus a tune will net you over 80 horsepower to the wheels. The turbo can be upgraded for under 1000$, and coupled with a manifold, injectors, and possibly a fuel pump on an e85 tune, you will see over 120 more hp Mine is currently down for a turbo rebuild, after 140k hard miles it finally went out on me. Thank you for this video and I look forward to more!

U gotta change the SST fluid earlier than what the manual says. Mine threw up multiple critical faults and wouldn't get into gears and I tbough it was dead, gambled and changed the fluid and it came back to life. This transmission is very very sensitive to dirty fluid!
@vertio7

How often do you change it? Every 40k kms?
@cirasarc4413

@@vertio7 30K miles is widely recommend. Mine is high mileage (178k miles), I may start changing the fluid every 25k, or when I feel like the shifting is getting a bit rough.

They need a transmission heater in cold climates or it'll take an hour to get to operating temp

Kozmic Motorsports sells a heated sump made by Dodson that takes the hot coolant of the engine and passes it through the sump of the transmission to bring it up to temp quicker.

Hi, great video! I have a 2011 Raliart sedan that I’m pushing 110,000 miles on. I haven’t modified mine much, just a stage 1 intake and exhaust and reflash. The biggest reason I haven’t done more is the small fuel tank these cars have. I rarely see 300 miles on a tank. I work nights and it is about 40 miles to work in northeastern Ohio weather. The best thing I’ve done to mine is to install a Viper Smart Start system on it. The transmission fluid is fairly thick and takes a while to warm up. It’s nice to go out to warm car that I don’t have to let the transmission warm before drive.

Hello! Great choice in a daily/winter vehicle. I have the sedan version. This weekend I did a td06 20g upgrade with a 9 wheel billet blade. Full hot parts kit from MAperformance including a tubular manifold, 02 eliminator vta downpipe, id 1050x injectors, aero fuel pump, synapse diverter valve and other bolt ons parts including 4in fmic, ic piping , test pipe injen intake and cat back. Basemapped for the weekend and will be tuned tomorrow. I consider it a wolf in sheeps clothing when one opens up its potential.

I had the car dynoed. 405whp on 330tq. Clutches started slipping because we did not install s sport which adds 20% more clamping force. S sport is installed now and it is faster than when it dynoed at 405whp. For a 13k car I am faster than most cars on the strert with the creature comforts of a modern vehicle. Love the car!!! Next steps are AMS TMP cams, timing belt change and re tune in e85. My injectors are not being pushed anywhere near their potential
