the biggest price discrepancy I notice is caused by the presence of factory E-lockers. If you want a clean one thats been cared for like yours you can find them for a good price (4000-6500$) all day long if they have open diffs but if it has the dual factory e-lockers in it people will try get 10-15 grand for a truck with salvage title just because it has the lockers LOL. I'm looking for one but I'd rather get a clean example with open diffs and install ARB lockers after the fact and have a better running truck than one that someone beat to shit that has E lockers. good video man. thanks

how much did you pay for it? i just picked one up with 215k for 3k and it was neglected too. i did everything myself so it didn't cost anywhere near that but i think the neglected cooling system caused it to overheat and the head gasket is on its way out because i get lots of condensation when first started. In New Zealand we got the 4.2L Turbo Diesel as part of the range which is by far the most popular model. For towing it's a absolute beast plus the fuel economy & luxury makes it a good daily driver. The subsequent models moved to V8 Turbo Diesel making it even better. We also got a dual or single cab pickup version with that diesel V8!

We still have our 1996 model; these trucks do go through brakes like crazy, in addition to having poor gas milage. However, they are iconic, unmatched vehicles that are great to have. Question for other owners: Any issues with the steering loosening up? The steering on ours feels loose, and when going over bumps on the road, it tends to weave/rock side-to-side, without the steering wheel even moving. (That may sound contradictory when you consider what I just said about Landcruisers, but, truly, this happens to old vehicles. This thing also suffered many years of unpaved roads in Arizona, in addition to the extreme heat, etc.
@ZentRose
9 жыл бұрын
maccollectorZ (Commenting Account) Yeah the steering on the cruisers can be a little loose. The factory service manual has a good section about measuring the play in the steering and identifying whether it is excessive or not. Make sure your alignment is within spec and it should not weave. Although my steering was loose.. the truck still tracked very straight over broken roads. Good luck and enjoy your truck!
@asdfasdf4345artsdfg
9 жыл бұрын
ZentRose Thanks for the info. This does have larger tires than the stock ones, but that's likely not the determining factor here. The steering wheel has a bit too much play; in addition, it feels as if there is more play when turning right than there is when turning left. When going over bumps, it seems to go out of its lane a bit--even if I have the wheel stationary. It sort of feels as if it's rocking side to side a bit. I believe the alignment was fixed on this some time ago, as it was actually worse than this at one point. Is it practical to tighten the steering, or is this some unavoidable issue that plagues an old car? (Enjoying this thing! It was my first family car, regarding my lifetime. Now, the day has come where I get to drive it.)

Juan Jose Perez Hey Juan. First thing to do is enjoy it because it is a great truck! I do not have my manual any more but the basics that I remember were birf grease, axle grease, axle fluid change, trans fluid, oil change, air filter, coolant flush, cooling system (including the pesky heater hose) and valve adjustment. My suspension had also worn out after many miles so I put on some new shocks, springs, and caster correctors. I think I am probably forgetting something but others are welcome to chime in here. Good luck and enjoy the truck!
