I love this. I'm from the Fens in the UK, where my ancestors lived a similar, albeit harder, existence: Wildfowling, hunting, trapping birds and eels, peat and gault digging. Those things are gone, or all but gone now. A bygone age. I miss it, even though I was never alive to witness it.

I grew up a Greenwing, my father heavily in DU and a guide we hunted every season hard, I’m 28 now and still goin strong here in North Florida where we hunt the gulf, but in my youth around 11 we went for a few days to stay on a house boat with a friend when we got a great deal on a guided package he put up for the silent auction at the Florida state DU convention banquet dinner night. Those few days were really special killing bull canvasback, a drake mallard, some other species as well. We shot some nutria rats as well, just such a cool place. I have fond memories of the place when thousands of ducks could be seen flying, there were multiple house boats on the mouth of this river where it met the coast, I can’t remember the name, someone else might know exactly where I’m talking about. But the one I was on could hold several men and then there was at least several of them. Duck camp is a magical place, and the coast has the most. Personally I’m fine here though, we have plenty of ducks close at home and we got our own style here in North Florida and I’ll keep the waterfowlin tradition alive in the Big Bend baby, nature coast keepin it natural.

Thank you Steve for bringing your KZitem channel full circle for me. My momma is full on Cajun. She passed during Katrina. Her final days were on a humble Cajun home on the bayou. Crawfish étouffée, turtle Fricassee, chicken and boudin gumbo. In the mid ‘70’s I remember paddling thru bayou Teche with my daddy and grandpa. Snakes dropping into the Pirogue from the trees. Catching crawfish and cat fish in the crawfish traps. My grandfather nailing the catfish to a tree and using pliers to skin them. Oh yea, the mosquitos; 4 would hold me down and 1 would suck my blood 🤣. I miss my Cajun my heritage. Btw, in New Iberia I have a cousin T-Boy! Laissez les bons temps rouler! Edit: I knew you was my Spirit Animal when you put that bottle of Makers Mark in ur cart 🥰. Btw, I got in-laws and outlaws that work at the Tabasco plant there on Avery Island that always hook this brother up when I’m in town 😃👍🏻.
