Basler did excellent work keeping DC-3 airframes still flying.

Got a bunch of jumps from DC3/C47s, from 1975-2007. Including one with a right hand door, at the World Freefall Convention in 1987. I'm officially retired now, but if I had the opportunity, I'd gear up again to get a leap from this puppy!

What better testament to this old bird, the design and engineering and that the fact that it can be retro-fitted to the degree that it is still earning its keep some 86 years on. A truly amazing aircraft... Now, if they could design cars to the same standards.

never mind 86 years for a modern car, I'd be impressed with 8.6 years.

This bird like many others in the day were built to last and take a beating. The B-52 is still flying today for an example.

They actually did design cars to the same standards. But the rich people understood very early on that if they were to make cars that would last for ever, nobody would buy another car once they had bought one. And so the manufacturers and such would not get rich, and not stay in power. But we all know that if you maintained your oldtimer, it would keep on going. We have accepted cheap crap, like plastic intake manifolds. Or cars without a dipstick. There still are plenty of oldtimers around. Which if maintained still run perfectly. Now try and do that with a car build this year.

Takeoff and landings are done with the prop control full forward, which means your propeller is in the flat, low pitch/high RPM setting.

Piston powered DC3's used to be flown at the larger Drop Zones for Skydivers. Now that they are turbine powered, are there Drop Zones using Turbine powered DC3's or are they too expenive and too big for most dropzones which use the Twin Otter, King Air, Caravan, Skyvan, Pac 750. skydiverdriver.blogspot.com/p/skydive-aircraft.html

Got to be better than the DC-3 I flew in out of Cincinnati when I was 12 years old in 1957. The only thing good about that flight was the rough weather. Kept my interest focused on the flight attendants as they moved up and down the aisle. Thank God they didn't have sports bras then.
