This looks like a sensational location Kim, and you had some gorgeous light! It reminds me of a place close to my home where I haven't yet done a landscape vlog, so you've given me an idea for a future video. The peace and calm felt very familiar. I love the style you have for your videos, I know it wasn;t your intention to vlog about landscapes but you might be on to something! :)

You've got an eye for a great image, the drive and enthusiasm to get out and take them at the best time, and the patience to properly explore and not rush your photography (and great friends, not just to keep you company, but who will actually help you! :D) Awesome work! Your non photography vids are also just filled with infectious enthusiasm - so you're doing exactly what you set out to do! Great work! :D Question though.. what are you using to cover your viewfinder / back screen on the long exposure?? Is it the tin your Big Stopper came in? Mines didn't come in a tin :( and my D7100 has horrible light leakage through the viewfinder on long exposures (and unlike you, I'm too impatient and lazy to remember to cover it!)
@kimgrantphotography
7 жыл бұрын
Scott Rae Thank you so much for the kind comments Scott! Yes, when it's not windy I use the tin but of the weathers bad I either just use the camera strap or put a glove or lens cloth over the viewfinder. One day I hope to get a camera with a build in viewfinder cover but I too have the D7100, so can feel you pain 😂
@ScottRae
7 жыл бұрын
I upgraded my main body to a D810 earlier in the year and have been absolutely blown away by how good it is in all conditions, though it, and the bigger lenses, are a lot heavier... Suspect the D850 will be even better!! My D7100 will replace my D90 as my infrared camera at some point, when I stop being lazy and decide how I want to convert it!

I admit it was the title of your video "Landscape Photography" that made me start watching you. But it was your attitude to all things natural that has made me stay, far too few people even notice the world around them never mind care about it. The fact that you live in such a beautiful part of the world is definitely an added bonus. Your passion shines through in all your videos with is a wonderful thing to watch, as it gives hope for the future and you being a younger person only adds to that hope. Thank you for your videos, I always enjoy them and they never fail to entertain and inform and I'm sure your channel is going to grow and grow. Some great shots too, your photography is much better than you give yourself credit for.

Exactly, but why aren't there more females doing thins kind of thing? You see, that's what annoys me, a lot of women like to complain about the lack of women in certain fields, usually implying that it's because men are holding them back. I don't think that's the case though, nobody is holding them back. The point is, women could pick up a camera and start shooting, but often they choose not to! Same with all the other fields, where there are only very few women: They tend to choose not to go into that particular direction. If women tend to make different choices in life, how can they then complain about a lack of females in a certain field, if it was their free choice not to take that route? If there are only few women in technical fields, it's not because we the men don't want them there, it's because they choose a different path in life.

Hi Kim, Have you thought of taking a shot of the water with the trees in the background with a wide-angle lens around the first quarter moon? Have the moon behind you to light up the water and the trees. High iso wide angle lens aperture wide twenty to thirty-second shot. On a clear night, the stars would appear in a blue sky right down to the water. It would make a stunning shot. If there are some clouds about this would add to the scene as the moon would light them. I am very much into nightscape photography. There is definitely something magical about it.

I liked the wide shot at 7:08 and 9:30 a lot. One tip for presenting these, add a small white border to the images rather than edge to black. It makes a huge difference in how they appear and adds a more professional look to the final image. Check out some of Andrew Marr or Thomas Heaton's videos and you'll notice what I'm talking about.

Just wanted to say thanks for being inspirational. Having had a lovely holiday on Mull where I took some good (for me) images I returned home to the Cotswolds and have been unable to get motivated. You said in one vlog that people should just get out with their camera and do it. Stay within half an hour of home which for most of us will fit in with work and home. It is so obvious I should have seen it myself. Love the videos they are great, so too are the images. Thanks.
