First off I worked for Landstar for 10 yrs , and a great company , yes I made money , I left them when I turned 72 yrs old , BUT this company is not for everybody , if you can't dispatch yourself stay away , also it is a learning curve , what do you mean , you have to check the high traffic paths , you have to learn what agents are good and who you need to stay away from , you have to plan your trips geared around your ELB and hours available , they put a lot of tools to help you work smarter , follow me roaming phone alerts are a plus , the ball is in your court , you are not forced to take any loads , if you can't play by there safety rules , you are not going to last there , if you still want to be a puppet on a string , stay in your company truck Frank T

In reference to the remarks about LLC versus what is referred to as a "C" Corp or INC. And a sole proprietorship... a sole proprietorship is dangerous - you risk everything that is in your name if you run your business like that - you can operate that way but you better have all your property in some kind of trust to make you judgement proof and some states let a judgment be applied against your wages. An LLC is a corporate shelter of a fashion that has some very good advantages - however it has some sucky one too. A LLC income after expenses transfers to the LLC stock owners or partners schedule C and is taxed as self employment income. The first pain in the ass is the 15% self employment tax .. so the gentleman in this video who is paying himself a wage is going to double tax himself ... if he pays himself a salary of 2k per month he will pay 7.5% from his check then the LLC will match that with another 7.5% - then you will have to deduct income tax on the 2k. At the end of the year you will have to pay 15% selfemployment and income tax on the profits anyway ... in the end your just giving your self a headache having to file the 941 withholding forms because with a LLC everything ends up on your schedule C attached to your 1040. The tax rates on individuals for the kind of income your talking about is about 34% or so. The best thing to do in my opinion is to run your business as a DBA [doing business as] under a regular INC. You have a lot more control over the distribution of the profits. The max tax bracket on a regular INC is 21% thanks to trump. There are many options to fund retirement plans and there is even a way to just pay the taxes at whatever rate you wind up in at the corporate level and just not distribute it in dividends ! It's called withheld profits. There are also ways you can carry forward losses for up to twenty years .. everyone should consult a good cpa for advice on which kind of business entity works best for your particular circumstances... for myself I will have a family trust that owns the INC and the actual trucking company will be a DBA operating under the INC. If you have more than one truck each truck should be owned by it's own equipment trust. That way in the event of a big suit the only asset that can be attacked is whatever the owner of the truck has - which in the case of a big wreck is a torn up truck. The trucks owned by the trust's are leased to the DBA ... the CPA will school you up on depreciation schedules and determine what your lease rate needs to to make the transaction work to your advantage. Ok guys trucking is big business even with just one truck - so if you don't know about what I'm talking about hire a proffesional... they are worth every penny ... stay safe and know your numbers - it's just good business

I drove for ATS for 1 year I got pulled over because my seat belt strap looked loose on my shoulder. They sat me for a full week and won't even let me make a paycheck. They refused to give me any loads or let me get my own loads. Then the load that they did give me they made sure it took a whole week to do and it did not pay enough to cover my truck fuel and home pay. This was during December of last year ruined my entire family's Christmas they did this two weeks in a row to me. So I feel you when you say some companies freaked out about anything with the seatbelt. I was wearing mine

I also have to train to make any money. I average about one to two days home per month. Other than that I run 400 to 600 miles per day if I'm with students will do about 1100 miles a day. You're saying you do $8,000 a month? And you're making that kind of money? Maybe I'm at the wrong company and I should save my money for a downpayment on a truck. What are your thoughts on that? Any advice?

Get away from leasing trucks at any company! Save up and buy your own truck and be careful of who you then lease your truck too! Landstar is transparent with what your percentage will be! There load board is just that a load board! You can negotiate with brokers or just deal with Landstar agents choice is your! They will not babysit! Know your numbers and learn the trucking business Landstar is a good place to lease on with I enjoy it they don't mess with you ever if your doing your job and not getting tickets! They don't play around with drivers when it comes to safety! You can make money at Landstar it's all up to you! Every BCO is not the same when it comes to there business model or how hard they want to work you really need to understand your numbers and then just do the work!

Michael Constantine, there are two ways to do it.1) No Llc aka ‘sole proprietor’ style. You claim all gains and loses at the end of the year on a schedule C portion of tax return and deal with the gains and losses as they come. 2) is to form an LLC and tax it as a corporation, same tax reporting however, if truck dies, and you cannot afford a replacement, you can bankrupt the company, keep what you have in your account and start over-it’s the same way trump avoided federal taxes. If the losses don’t match gains- you can ‘spread’ your loss over time with no bad effects on you as a person-only on the business.
@seanwebb3391

Eric Mendez not true. Just because you use Corp credit doesn’t mean it’s restricted to just your biz credit. Plenty of loan packages will require you to still personally guarantee it and having a duns number isn’t going to really do anything without any credit
