Ridiculous value - this is a breath of fresh air while so many amp companies are focusing almost exclusively on putting their best design work into the high end products. And Wrathe is a monster player pf course. Love the little quotes in his playing - I’m sure I heard George Lynch in there and a few others.

I agree. I always get frustrated when someone demos an affordable electric guitar (low budget Squier or Epiphone) but they play through Fractal Ax FX or a $3 thousand dollar Marshall. I want to hear the low budget guitar through a low budget amp. If I'm shopping for a cheap guitar, there's a chance that I would only be able to afford a cheap amp. Different subject I know, but same idea.

what I find kinda funny is how you can see inbetween the loudpedal and these two: guitar players are a very peculiar crowd. I'm sure Laney put some thinking into these three products and how it makes sense, market-wise to differentiate these products. I guess the Orange micro heads and terror stomps illustrate well enough how there is a market for each different version. However, what still strikes me with all these demos of the new head versions is just how unbelivable the value for money with the pedal version already is. It got all the features of the bigger amp, minus the reverb, the 1 watt version and the second IR - which, all fair, are great additional features. However, I guess there are just a lot of players who still want to stick to the physical amp-head instead of having an pedal-amp on their board, I guess. Me, I got me the pedal-one specifically for rehearsal and live-gigging because I can sent our drummer the DI for his in-ear mix even without a FOH (on small club gigs etc.) and its features and form-factor were basically made to fit for that application.

Naw. There absolutely is. And it's readily apparent when you start playing leads. Riffage is stellar, but there is a difference when you start playing leads. Why i love Dimebags riffs and tone there, and his lead playing, but literally hate his lead sound. Massive grating turn off. But i'm sure for a lot of people it's not an issue. I mean i've owned a few Fractals and currently it's my only rig. And i';m still looking at micro tube heads. I figured this one was solid state but promo doesn;t mention it so i searched for a review. It sounds killer, but i know no matter what if i bought one i'd eventually sell it and be looking for a tube amp again. And after 40 years, that will always be the case. Not sure why i even bother considering anything else. Axe is pretty great though, really great, but it's not better than a single tube head or even a 90's tube preamp with a few pedals or a rack effects. It just doesn't satisfy the same to the core if you know or have had th og sht. And back to back it's honestly no competition in sound. In ease of use yeah kinda. Touring or whatever yes, Recording yes. But absolute bliss that tickles the nut sack. Not at all. Not even at all.

On my newer Vox C keys it has a L and R XLR out that can go to your audio interface. BuT it warns not to supply 48v phantom power from the interface back into the keys as it may toast the keys. I purchased a 2 XLR to TRS for this as the TRS into the interface makes the phantom power not available on the 1/4" TRS. I haven't really tried this but wondered if the same idea could work with non powered mics by using the XLR to TRS cable there as well. Now I see the XLR DI out on this amp that goes to the audio interface as well? If so would supplying 48v from the interface damage this amp DI circuit and would using an XLR to TRS into the interface be defensive there as well?

Why did they not just make tiny valves to go with them? That would been much better imo
@ithemba
10 ай бұрын
there either are the normal preamp valves - which you have to run at way higher voltages than you'd find in a pedal to actually do anything really, plus they need bigger and expansive transformers. Then you'd got bigger form factor and problems with heat dissipation - OR you'd go the (mostly nowadays abandoned) "Nu-tube" route, which is a very niche and expansive technology that was only ever utilized in a few (quite expansive) pedals. Or you'd put a valve in and only run it at 24 V, which turns them into a show-y gimmick which actually doesn't do much (and nothing which transistors and clipping diodes can't do at least as good). The myriad of "valve" pedals and cheap amps with a single preamp tube built in from 10 years ago show that: most didn't sound that good and the actual tube doesn't do that much. Some sounded brilliant, but I'd argue they would have even without the single voltage-starved tube.
@nympholepticmonkey352
10 ай бұрын
@ithemba that's a fair point. Thanks for the explanation 👍. I just thought the idea of a tiny valve amp instead of solid state was pretty exciting. I had no Idea that it would be riddled with so many technical problems. Shame.
@nstrug
10 ай бұрын
@@nympholepticmonkey352Laney do some excellent small valve amps, but valve amps are always more expensive, and much heavier than solid state amps. They require very large transformers, even for low power outputs and these add a lot to the cost and weight.
