The Mini and the Mini ST are a new range of micro, battery powered guitar amps from Laney. They’re compact and lightweight, feel really solid with a tough plastic housing, and their classic Laney styling means they also look really cool. The standard mini model kicks out 3 watts through a single 3 inch speaker, whereas the ST is the stereo model, which is a bit louder at 6 watts, so that’s 3 watts through each of it’s two 3 inch speakers. The ST also features a built in vintage style delay, which really opens up the tone of the amp, allowing you to hear it’s true stereo effect.
Both models are available in a choice of 3 classic stylings, each based on a classic Laney amp. There’s the vintage looking Lionheart, with it’s blue and tweed colour scheme, the 70’s rock inspired Supergroup, and the more modern looking Ironheart which features a metal speaker grill. Internally, the amps are all based on the same tonal circuit, so it really is just up to you as to which one you prefer the look of.
Control-wise, the smaller Mini model has knobs for gain, tone and master volume and a switch to select either the clean or drive channels, and the bigger stereo models add an extra channel level control, and knobs to adjust the volume and echo time of the delay effect. Both amps have got a standard 3.5 millimetre headphone output and auxiliary input, but they also feature a Laney Smart Input connection, which allows you you connect the amp to your phone to access all your favourite guitar tones from the tone generating app of your choice.
Designed so you can take them pretty much anywhere, both the Mini and the Mini ST can be powered by either 6 double A batteries or an optional power supply, and despite their compact design, they also sound pretty good too, with a nice full tone, not too tinny or fizzy like some other battery powered mini amps, and they easily kick out enough volume for home practice or having a quiet jam with your friends. Take a quick look and listen with PMTVUK and check them out at your local Professional Music technology...
