Lang is definitely not a "selfless musician", but in many ways the total opposite, a perfect piano showman. Just like Liszt probably was before the year 1840. It will be interesting how and when he will mature artistically. The world today doesn't seem to care about artistic depth, rather more gold and glitter. Let's see what path Lang will end up taking. Good health to him.

I honestly love the lowered octaves in the very last part. And also that little pause where he also stops the pedal, just before the part with said octaves. I'd like to think this is actually how the piece is meant to sound, despite the fact that it obviously wasn't written that way. Something about those two things makes the part way more "street musicey", which is what Liszt was going for with the rhapsodies in general, and with that last part in this particular rhapsody specifically.
@OKAYYESZZ69

The term is not “street musicey” it’s gypsy music that’s what inspired Liszt
@moopey1837

@@OKAYYESZZ69 I know it's specifically gypsy music, but street music doesn't have to be from gypsies. Like, where I'm from, we have traditional street music for like large celebrations or carnivals and such, and it's not gypsy music. There is gypsy music played in that context as well, but not exclusively. Awful tone btw. Your comment. Could not have made it sound more condescending. "The TErm is NoT 'stREet MusiCEY". Did you actually think that I thought it was an actual term? It's just a way to describe the feel. God.

@@moopey1837First of all your culture is absolutely irrelevant to Liszt and Classical music at all. And second I do believe that you thought it was a real term because it now you were using it like it was a real word. But now your so blessed with knowledge it’s like you work at Oxford. Anyway seeing your reaction is kinda😂 Why are you so mad?

@@OKAYYESZZ69 Indeed, my culture has nothing to do with this. I used my country as an example. Moving past that awful reading comprehension of yours, if you did know ANYTHING about the Hungarian Rhapsodies and Hungarian music, you'd know that gypsies have been an integral part of Hungary's tradition, and that their music basically merged with older Hungarian traditional music, and now they are basically the same. Traditional Hungarian music IS gypsy music at this point, for the most part. So that's why I described it as a style of street music, and not specifically gypsy music, because largely, for Hungary, they are the same. So one knowledgeable enough in the topic would interpret "street music" to mean "gypsy music" for this specific case. Also Liszt is a Romantic composer, not a Classical one. I know, even in academic circles, we use the word "Classical" as an umbrella term, but here it doesn't really make sense to use, which leads me to believe, as I mentioned above, that you know way less than you think you do. And also wow just do something about that tone. Seriously. I said your tone was out of line, and instead of fixing it, you replied in the same exact way. I'm so glad we are doing this through the internet, because if I had to speak with you in person... Man...

@@moopey1837 There is something wrong with you if you’re gonna write all of that because of some simple difference in opinions. So I’m not gonna read all of that at all. You say watch your tone like your some sort of Karen at Walmart this is priceless 🤣

Absolutely agree Azangaro Joe. One of many examples of the director/cameraman thinking they are bigger than artist. Great flamboyant playing from Lang Lang of course.

I play this piece myself and I love the idea of dropping the bass at 6:53 and playing an octave lower. :)

I does not add nothing to the song, only you have to jump more with your hands, but nothing more special, i am not sayin what it is bad or awful, only i am saying what it isn,t necessary for this song

@@ignaciomartinez5866 I think it is good idea. liszt does that kind of thing many time. I think that in the liszts piece, we can add some passages in by improvisation. and liszt permit it. have you seen the ossia part on the liszt's pieces? I think that says that the improvisation was commonly played at the 1800's time on the salon music concert. chopin was good at improvisation too. I think lang lang catch that. you can see that stuff at his don juan's last part. p.s horowitz does this thing many time.

@@hghan Yes I think if you are going to change notes or add anything, Liszt is the best composer in doing so.

I just love how Lang Lang performs he is like doing so many expressions and also like moving with the music but also while playing a difficult song
