He still makes the ending maniacal but what a fantastic performance. His technicality is perfect.

To Lookatwhatur etc: But what about those precious moments between 9:30 and 9:38 where we're treated to another of his stupid-looking arm/hand/body displays? (Nothing wrong with adding 8 more seconds to the mix, resulting in a whole half-minute of historical piano playing).

Funny how i hate Lang Lang for his actions and at some points come to him for his showy performance😂😂guy is perfect for this epic piece with his body language and all. Though if with ears alone, I'd still go for the mother of all pianists. Spectacular 🎉

To mza: If, by referring to the "mother of all pianists," you mean Martha Argerich, I'm glad, because her approach to pianism and stage decorum, to say nothing of her admirable, total lack of arrogance, is in blinding contrast to Lang's unprofessional, circus-like theatrics, his squirm-inducing facial expressions, and his obviously contrived, distracting arm and "floating" hand gestures.

In my opinion the coda is so goofily fast compared to Prokofievs original tempo
@richardvolpe7664

To FatzGeronimo: Well, let's face it - - large chunks of this concerto are played here at such unconscionably overly fast tempos (How on earth did Sir Rattle agree with these speeds?), that the results can be likened to frenzied action in a Walt Disney cartoon. And oh! doesn't Lang look deliriously proud, having attained the world's record for the fastest rendition of this work ever done? Of course, anyone who's heard his crazy, inappropriate choices of tempo in his Grieg and Tchaikovsky concertos won't be surprised by what he does here in the Prokofiev. I have a strong feeling that even if he were to listen to the composer's recording. he'd still go ahead and do his own thing: You know - - the "Lang" thing.
@williammeek

Can't tell if I love this or not - sometimes I feel he is playing too staccato, yet at times it works, a lot of the time I enjoy the decisions Sir Rattle has made with the orchestra, but sometimes I feel its too slow or too quiet. The instruments he emphasises always feel playful and correct to the character though. 13:16 - Never heard this chord quite like that

All I see is the hubris of the pianist thinking he's greater than the composer and even the conductor and the whole orchestra. His demeanor and his playing just stinks every inch of that hubris. his phrasing and tone is so absurd and disrespectful of Prokofiev's design of piano in this concerto, he makes the piano sometimes Mozart here, sometime chopin there, over use of pedal is so obvious, his inconsistency of musical languages just shows he has no idea what Russian Formalism, which informs this concerto, is. To be a musician is to be humble in front of the music you play, you serve the music, not the opposite, and he shows his hubris every time he plays this kind of music that requires pianists to follow the tradition. Pianists no matter how great, even Richter, Gilels, Berezovsky, Matsuev, or Sokolov, they will be very careful about this part. This is sacrilege.
