@@PP-wp2bx I literally said he is a legend FOR Chinese people, not that he IS a Chinese idol. And there is no "suggestion" whatsoever. Also, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume what you were trying to say was that he isn't a HAN-Chinese, which perhaps is true, but he is still a Chinese national and Chinese citizen. That's like saying, oh Lebron James is not "American-American" because he is actually of African descent.

The most gentle manner I can comment on this video is to say, Lang Lang is wrong. This is yet another piano teacher trope passed down by word of mouth and not based upon any academic facts. The best solution for a pianist struggling with dynamics is to stop using finger muscles to press the keys because it results in unreliable and uneven dynamics due to the lack of strength that finger muscles contain. Use the forearm for power instead moving the forearm up/down. Whereas the location you press the key does effect the amount of force required to press the key down, the required hand position will usually never give you an opportunity to move farther in or out of the keys in a manner that is still ergonomic and comfortable. Furthermore, using Lang Lang's suggested technique will make your playing more unreliable as you'll move farther into the keys, and then use too less or too much force resulting in either a single loud note or a ghosted note that does not sound.

He is using forearm weight for the louder dynamics, but if you train a certain technique long enough you will master it that way. Yes I use arm weight myself. But to say it's wrong is wrong. There is no wright or wrong.
