My subjects are all 5mm or less so MP-E has always been a no brainer. For larger subjects the AF of the Canon 100s would be a must if using built in focus bracketing (and stacking with R7) but if you’re happy manually focus bracketing or just taking single shots the Laowa seems a good option at least with Canon for which it retains full aperture viewing and an RF will add stabilisation.

Absolutely loved it! The only way this video could have been even better: to show your gorgeous photographs to illustrate the results of using each of these lenses. I'd like to try your idea of coupling the MPE65mm with a teleconverter. The interaction between the two of you works great when Kendra asks pertinent questions. Thanks a bunch! Cheers!

Laowa - Venus Optics we tried the Canon 100mm macro tripod collar and it does not fit the the Venus lens! Just FYI it slides all over the place. But we will get the venus one at B&H and give it a try!

The Laowa is the Queen in sharpness. The MPE 65, was outstanding in it's time. We are talking about a lens that was released in September 1999.

Ya although they had a newer release that is more consistently sharp! We sold our old one and got the newer one. It’s still the best thing to get the really small stuff but we do reach for the Laowa on a more regular basis.

IBIS is a game changer and renders the advantage of an IS lens versus a non IS lens a moot point which tips it for the Laowa for me. The MPE is bit specialist for my requirements.

Ya we reach for the Laowa more than the MPE unless we are shooting something really small! I always say that I have to use the MPE in the AM when I have the most patience!

Another excellent and very useful video. The Nikon lenses all have at least a white dot on the lens barrel to help you align the lens to the F mount. Nikon versions of third party lenses vary in this feature and I bet the Laowa 100 for Nikon is just the same as the Canon mount in not having a dot. The newer Nikon lenses (as of a few years ago now) have a really cool feature with this where the white dot is much larger and painted over a raised bump or mound - makes it very easy to find and orient your lens in the dark or one-handed. Maybe a dot of something like puff paint would be useful to add to the Laowa?

Yes!!! We found out and actually did a review of it! Not something I would put a lot of weight on but certainly useful for hand holding.
