A prototype for everything! Never saw anything like that in 41 years in the S&T! 👍🏻

Darren Hillman I spent 33 years in the Pway Dept and to connect rails after a fishplate failure or a rail cut short etc you would be surprised how the the job was done lol.

Darren. You must have worked for a proper Railway Company - BR. Not this dangerous Mickey Mouse Franchising nonsense. Many quality BR staff, especially Engineers left Britain soon after BR was abolished, and like me got a much better paid job with an overseas Railway. BR of course had some of the most stringent safety regulations on the Planet, and smarter overseas Railways knew this and were willing to pay more, for ex BR staff.

This is something that I am sure I can use in the future. Thanks for sharing. Calvin Stephens

I know I am late to the party, but I am building my first layout and did the same basic thing. Test running showed no issues. I did solder mine though as it was not on a turnout.

Great idea - I wish I'd seen this years ago! So many changed track plans because the geometry of points was a few mill out. Cheers and ta!

RAIL JOINTS ! The picture shown at 1:50 is sourced from Indian Railways. It would never be allowed on a British Railways "Running Line" as its highly dangerous ! A further indication of the dangerous methods used "overseas" is the fact that the Baseplate (between rail & sleeper) has been spiked. And one spike is missing from each of the two baseplates visible !!!!

Has to be in America, that would not be allowed in the UK

Pretty sure it's not in the UK, as the rail is spiked to a tie plate, rather than mounted on a chair.
