I gave it a LIKE but I really dislike the low resolution! In 2012- Couldn't the uploaded do better than 480p? As a Space-Fanboy, Give me 720p at least, 1080p would be better BUT 4K would be best! Here it is 2019, even in 2018 my cellphone last year could play 4k KZitem videos on it's 4K screen!

Thank you so much for this lecture. I just wish I had heard it back when I was ten. I wondered if instead of using actuators, you could use a purely computational adjustment. If you do it again, please use a laser pointer.

Why not build a very large telescope on the moon ? Way less gravity , no turbulence . The money you'd save on adaptive optics could be used to protect it from 'meteorites' with lasers .

An interesting lecture. She didn't mention that the real adaptive optics is on the secondary mirror & that it only helps to resolve a tiny portion of a whole image e.g. separating 2 stars. Adaptive optics still can't take glorious whole frame pictures like Hubble.

We don't really need really need such huge telescopes anymore. We can now just coordinate any number of smaller telescopes located all over the world.
@KitCox

Regina Cava Please explain. Isn't there a relativistic effect on the transmission of timing signals to synchronize them from all over the globe?
@reginacava6539
9 жыл бұрын
KitCox A very small one. Nothing like if you are in orbit. Besides, you can compensate for it if you calculate it. The good thing about this is that it effectively is like a telescope with the diameter of the distance between the stations.
@KitCox
9 жыл бұрын
Regina Cava I'm aware of "spreading" out scopes to increase the effective diameter, as is done with the VLA radio telescope in New Mexico. I'm intrigued with the idea of "distributed" photon gatherers. But they will all have to be aimed at the same spot at precisely the same time and remain focused and aimed for far longer periods. The large aperture will give higher resolution but less light gathering power. Are you suggesting that these scopes be manufactured to the same specs, or use any and all existing scopes of all makes already in place?
@reginacava6539
9 жыл бұрын
KitCox Using larger telescopes would help, but you wouldn't need to use them. I think that just adding more telescopes would have same effect as fewer larger telescopes.
@KitCox
9 жыл бұрын
Regina Cava Well, we are certainly in the age of "distributed computing" and I don't see why we couldn't have "distributed telescopy" as well. I'm wondering if this hasn't been mentioned among cosmologists? Your idea seems valid to me. After viewing a youtube on the construction of the EOS I'm now wondering if each of the telescopes would all have to be in the same plane above sea level to work. This might prove to be an insurmountable problem if required.

My dear professor Crawford.hello, if can trouble you for a moment with one question please. If the earth were flat, would one be able to see MT. Everest from almost any position on earth with a giant telescope?? I only ask because a flat earth pandemic has broken out all over the Internet with no end in sight and these tiresome and somewhat annoying people just can't seem to find a positive answer to shut them all up. I hope you find this message and thank you kindly.
@staninjapan07

Nice question. I recently saw a flat-earth 'documentary' for the first time. I posted it one F.B and everyone who responded was of the same opinion that you seem to be - that it is clearly not flat.
@Psygression91
6 жыл бұрын
If the Earth was actually flat, you should be able to see mountain ranges from anywhere on Earth (provided that no other mountain range is blocking the other), and you should be able to see lands on opposite sides of the oceans and in the background, you should be able to see Antarcticas massive wall of ice (which supposedly encircles the flat earth....LOL!). All in saw when i tried looking across the ocean, was the horizon. Flat Earth instantly debunked.

No. The atmosphere causes enough trouble even when we look directly through it on a 90 degree plane. Besides, when was the last time you saw anything further than 100 miles away, even from an airplane?

the biggest draw back is lens sag which can be fixed in the future, by using a sheet of graphene which is about one atom thick and invisible at that thickness and very strong!. use it to support larger lens, to prevent lens sag.
