Larry Bird was the Mozart of the basketball. Seeing him play was a privilege for every lover of good basketball.

I literally called J Rissick ( NBA corporate officer) about 10 years ago asking him how does the public obtain classic games. KCAL local to The Lakers and WLVI out here in Boston were the home broadcast stations. He gave me a 2 part answer. Yes the NBA has all of the games. However they’re reticent about releasing them because it undermines the current product. True story.

That's because the current product is just poor quality....

Most games in Larry's 1st year seem to be unavailable on video and those that are available are poor quality. Where are the quality recordings, seems like potential gold mine for Bird fans?

So I spoke to J Rissick / NBA corporate media relations-( probably misspelled it) maybe 10-12 years ago regarding your very question. He said then there were no plans to release all of the games even though they are on master tapes. Moving forward after speaking about the “whys” of not doing box sets of these Bird, Magic, Jordan games with other media people. The general answer that was given is that it undermines the current NBA product, ....ie the past 8-10 years.
