I heard Leon was working bartending a small joint in Detroit and HAD to go meet him. After a few beers I asked him his thoughts on fighting Larry Holmes. His eyes grew so wide. He told me all anyone asked about was fighting Ali, and he was sick of it. He told me virtually nobody asked him about Holmes. We spent the next hour talking just that. Out of respect, I never brought Mohammad up. Great guy.

@@kingcassius2586 Larry was coming off his thrilling title fight win against Ken Norton, so he decided to pick a mediocre heavyweight as his 1st title defense. Considering the vast difference in talent between Evangelista and Norton, it would have been surprising If Larry didn't dominate Alfredo. I would argue that Holmes looked even sharper in his 2nd title defense against future cruiserweight champion Ossie Ocasio. In terms of his title fight against Leon Spinks, it was right in the middle of the best run in his 7 1/2 year title reign. Beginning with his destruction of Top 5 contender Leroy Jones to his brutal beating of Tex Cobb, Holmes was simply awesome. During that run, Larry almost pitched a shutout against future heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick, he then destroyed the Number 2 ranked contender/former heavyweight champion Spinks in 3 rounds, he got off the canvas to knockout the dangerous Renaldo Snipes, and then he knocked out Number 1 ranked contender Gerry Cooney in one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

Again at 10.05 idiot cosell says spinks is rattling Holmes. at 10:20 cosell says Holmes knows he's in a fight, really? At 10:26 Larry hurts spinks with a combo and cosell says nothing, then it's all down hill for leon. Also Norton had a contrasting style of Ali. Therefore Ali didn't be effective agains Norton for three matc. On the other hand, If Ali had fought with Norton in 1964 or 1967 he would have beaten with ease.
