I remember when LH was in high school, and he hit a half court shot at the buzzer to tie the game at the Old CBC....it was crazy in that joint! When Larry went pro, I don't think one person held it against him because EVERYONE knew his situation, and we were just happy to have that one year. Then you guys got me thinking about players before Larry. I go back as far back as Jo Jo White from Beaumont. His pictures used to be in the barber shop when in the early 70's because he was from my hood. Anthony Bonner was around my time and I was in the house when his jersey was retired.

As I'm listening to this interview I think the fact that HS basketball didn't get nearly as much media coverage back then played a big part in why Larry Hughes made it. As he started playing in tougher games in HS and AAU allowed him to challenge himself and gauge his skill on different levels. I think the fact that kids can literally post a highlight of themselves on social media and get 100,000 likes for one highlight can give them a false confidence. Larry stayed humble throughout the process and it helped him tremendously.
