He was recording with Stax Records when they folded. He couldn't get another record deal and ended up touring himself into oblivion. He was one of the best live performers I ever saw, and I saw 'em all.

I was there. The year was 1976. Memphis, Tennessee. And there was the tall, skinny kid in a pair of frayed blue jean shorts, Chuck Taylor tennis shoes, no socks and a long tailed, black tux jacket. Larry was hammering on a full black grand piano, outdoors, under an open sky, and Fingers Taylor (later famous for becoming Jimmy Buffett's harmonica player) was blowin' the Jew's harp through the non-existent roof!!! Incredible energy. Don't know why they never made it to the big time? And yes, I still own his "High Steppn' and Fancy Dancin' album! Larry later formed a new band called Larry Raspberry and His Nuts of Steel Band!" He always had a good sense of humor. That's for sure. Great memories. Great music.

Wow...my older brother and his alcoholic buds brought this home from a show back in the mid/late 70s and I played it everyday for 2 months and then it was gone. I still remember it well, the words and music I've sang for 30+ years and nobody knew what I was singing till I told em. Great and Thanks!

I just got another one of their records on Ebay on a test pressing. I got to get this record of them too. This is a band that didn't get the recognition that they deserved.

Yep that was real Memphis Music, saw Larry, Koon Elder Band, and a lot others. Played in a little band Westt there in that day and played at the Ritz, then Poets Music Hall where Larry and awesome bands like Target and Creed played. Memphis was music in those days, real live music just about anytime you want it.

One of my buddies had this album and it got played pretty frequently. Haven't thought about it in years. What brought me here today is I just saw the list of members in The Gentry's, (Keep On Dancin' with lead vocals by Jimmy Hart...of later fame as The Mouth Of The South wrestling manager), and in the list of musicians is Larry Raspberry! I had always thought Larry Raspberry was a made up name. If I had owned the album myself, I would have read the liner notes!

Saw them at the Abbey Bar in Oxford, MS (Ole Miss) in the mid-70's. They brought the house down. People were dancing on tables. For some weird reason I remember Larry had shaved his head like a Hare Krishna follower.

You are welcome! Yes, I wore out 1 copy of the album and had to get another one also back in the 70's. I saw them live in 1975 ('74?) in Cincy at Bogarts. It was a great show! A buddy of mine was asking me a while back if I had ever heard of them, and I had to tell him about seeing them, this sent me on a search for a digital version. My remaining vinyl copy is so scratched and noisy...I am glad I could share...Keep on rockin' !!:

A friend of mine in Minneapolis Minnesota turned me onto this group. They're awesome !! Then about 1979 or so I was erecting stages and bleachers in Memphis for a 10 day rock concert and had backstage passes for all the bands during that 10 day period. I met Larry and the entire band, and partied with them back stage along with my girlfriend at that time. I'll never forget it. PS. These guy's were major partiers back then. I wander where they are today? (Dennis in Phoenix, AZ)
