what if you laminate the wood first then laser cut it and then sublimate it would that work ? if you tried that can you share your experience

It may technically work, but I am not sure what laminate pouches are made of. If they have PVC in them, that makes them dangerous to cut using a laser because it creates toxic fumes.

How well does the laminating sheet still to the wood? I would be doing it without the layer on top. Thanks for sending me your link. I will subscribe

It sticks pretty well. You may have to play around with the settings of your particular wood/laminate/heatpress but I haven't found it peels up. I've done it in non-layered projects as well.

thank you for the video. Do you think it is possible with the laser and the sublimation printer to make cardboard jigsaw puzzles?
@HeyLetsMakeStuff

Yes. You’d need to use a sublimation sticker sheet for the sublimation part, and then probably cut the puzzle from the back.

Hi! I am awaiting for my Xtool P2 laser cuter to arrive. I do not have a sublimation printer yet but am looking into purchasing one as well. My question is, can I apply a sublimation image to my wood and then cut out the design (like a puzzle)? Do you have a tutorial for that if so? thank you!

I don't have a tutorial, but I think it's possible! I would use this same technique with the laminate to sublimate your image, and then I'd flip it over and cut the puzzle from the back. Or I'd mask the puzzle and cut it from the front. Now you have me thinking...I'll add this to my (very long) list of tutorials to make!

Hi. Do you clean the inner & outer laser cut edges of the wood before assembling the layers? Thx!

If they are sticky or sooty I will run a baby wipe around the edges, but I don't try and remove the "lasered" edge (like trying to remove the dark brown charring).

If you laminate the wood prior to cutting the shape, would it be safe to cut that in the glowforge?
@HeyLetsMakeStuff

Hmm, that's a good question! I'm actually not sure. I did a quick bit of research and according to this site there are some plastics you shouldn't cut: www.troteclaser.com/en-us/learn-support/faqs/unsuitable-materials-laser-processing. But it looks like laminate sheets are PET and EVC, which aren't on that list. I'd still be very cautious cutting any sort of plastic not designed specifically for laser cutting because of toxic fumes.

Have you ever tried cutting your laminate sheet on a cricut?

I haven’t but I’m sure it would work! I’ve cut similar materials. I just didn’t want to add a third crafting machine to the mix for this project 🤣
