find the center of gravity. Spreading both hands apart makes the center somewhere inbetween the hands, but if you put both hands next to each other, the center is more precise.
@sokolov13
7 ай бұрын
one misconception is that the center of gravity of the barbell is affected by how you spread your hands. instead you should use the principle of moments to minimise the perpendicular distance of the weight acted on the barbell. ideally you would one only a single pivot that is directly above or very close to the center of gravity, therefore you are correct that putting your hand next to each other is efficient in maximising your strength and minimising the moments from the barbell. just nitpicking
@gfries4906
7 ай бұрын
Spreading your hands does not affect the center of gravity. You want to put your hands so that the midpoint between your hands is on the center of gravity.
@krishc.8980
6 ай бұрын
thats nowhere near how that works... the center of gravity is completely indifferent to how you place your hands on the barbell, but placing them closer together AND as close as possible to the actual center of gravity of the barbell (which is at the heavy side) lets you pick the weight up by applying almost all of your upward force in the spot where the barbell is producing almost all of its downward force (due to gravity).
@jackbombay1423
6 ай бұрын
The center of gravity remains always in the same spot no matter where you put your hands, but you have to find it out in order to lift it efficiently.
@crealkillr
6 ай бұрын
@@jackbombay1423 no i disagree. The center of gravity is the center of where you put your hands. If you put them to the far left, its inbetween your hands on the far left. If you put your hands on the far right, it doesn't "remain in the same spot no matter where you put your hands"

Due to there being more plates towards the left side the center of mass shifts towards the left. When applying force away from the center of mass the force applies a torque about the center of mass and everything else also applies a torque to balance the force torque. The solution, apply the force as close, as possible, towards the center of mass to reduce the torque. So, be insalely strong and lift the bar with one hand or use both of your hands and hold them as close as possible like the last guy did.
