Hi Pat Glad you was able to document what you could of the industrial heritage up there. You did well despite being apprehended. It amazes me the amount of man hours and hard graft that must have gone into making all those culverts and as you say at times it looked like you was in the middle of the countryside despite being in the heart of the steel works. Nature will always win the day in the end. Sandy PS I've been on the Speckled hen tonight:)

Hi Sandy, hope you, ve recovered from your epic walk across England, something to be proud of definetly deserve the Speckled Hen. You wonder how they built these places all those years ago, by hand, must of been hard for the men involved, built by craftsmen and that's why they are still here today, all the best Pat

Absolutely love the trouble and effort you go to to get your camera in a position where you can get some fantastic shots. I have a feeling it must have been this effort that got you caught! Saying you were going to stick to the wall so that you could not been see, all the time talking to a camera that you had placed on the opposite back in full view of the road above. That is real dedication! It is all very much appreciated this end. Makes your videos so interesting to watch. Thanks for all your great effort and hard work Pat, great work!

Most enjoyable. Thanks Pat. It's interesting too see the underworld even below a steel works. They don't seem to intrude upon the river much except for pipes and cables. i worked on Stanlow oil refinery for several years through which runs the river Gowy. They took extraordinary measures to ensure that the river remained unpolluted on its way to the Mersey. Good to see that the steel company take care to not mess up the local waterway. I am surprised that they got upset at your walking the route. You were in the river not the steel mill. I didn't notice any signage saying you can't get down and into the culvert. Perhaps it was hidden by a tree...

"so I'm gonna keep to this back edge so I'm hidden from view" Of course you are Pat! And the camera just hopped up there all by itself :-) I don't know what your heart rate would have been placing and retrieving the cameras, and passing those parked cars by a much lower bank. I know mine might have been a little swift though! Amazing to see stuff like the mini brick arches between those beams and what a state of disrepair cable management can be in when no-one is looking! Once again Pat, thanks for an interesting, informative and slightly more tense than normal, upload. All the best, Chris.

Thanks Chris, yes new I was risking it try to get the footage from the far bank, but I knew I had got most of my filming done. I honestly did, nt think they would be bothered about a old bloke messing about in the river, hopefully back up in the tree canopy soon, all the best Pat

You know what Pat,I think that's part of the problem. We know we are (fairly) sensible blokes just interested in our environment, but it doesn't seem to translate! Still, I'm sure they'll get the hang of it/us eventually :-) Sounds like a bit of a dangle to look forward to, but with some of your videos I'm not going to assume it's in a tree just because you mentioned a canopy. I'll wait until I see leaves 😉 again and as ever, thanks for the information, inspiration and entertainment. Chris.

Excellent. Great tension in this story. You have inspired a renewed discourse of the concept of man owning or even attempting to domesticate nature. A few minutes' research online explained to me that most of the smaller waterways in your part of the world are not public thoroughfares. Laws vary throughout the world regarding this matter. As a young man studying land surveying, in the State of Texas, I learned that for a Texas waterway to be publically accessible, it must be thirty feet wide AND navigable. This right does not extend beyond the river bank, to the adjacent lands. I see that many in Britain wish to have some access to the small streams and that progress is being made, on this front. At the same time we must not lose sight of the need to be protective of these vital natural places. Through your example, you have conveyed very well, a sense of respect both for nature's wonders and humans' engineering. Humans are a part of nature, as is their handiwork. As always, the issue is balance. In your own special diplomacy you are helping to bring about better understanding. Please be encouraged. You are yet to be discovered by most. ~Peter

Another great video, even if more limited than you would have liked. Might I suggest a high vis jacket, a clip board in a waterproof cover and a set of sampling bottles for future ones, you can them claim you are just doing a surprise spot sampling of the water quality and of course people weren't informed you were doing otherwise it wouldn't have been surprise spot sampling. Put the fear of the water company and the Environment agency into them. Having worked at a plating company i know how tight discharge limits are these days and the fear induced by a water company van turning up unannounced .

Well, Patrick, that concluded a most interesting series of videos, nothwithstanding some of the challenges you were forced to encounter and deal with, including difficulties with L.S., but it's been a worthwhile series, looking forward to more. How did you manage to maintain the sound quality, because your commentary and narration came across so clearly ? Noticed you were not using a label or other kind of roving mic., can only assume your Sony SLR (if that's the one you're using) picks up very well. It must have taken hours of preparation in filming, especially in the riparian work............wondering if you manage to set up a tripod actually in the river, then film the exact location, go back and dismantle your equipment, ready for the rest of the explore. Maybe this is why I find your work, and yourself, so inspiring. I have upgraded my channel now so my name won't appear in the title any longer, but my wife Sue and I both agree that meeting you at Redmires in Sheffield in May this year was the beginning of new expereiences for us and I hope to introduce my first couple of videos very soon. I note if they are kept as educational and interesting as possible then it's in keeping with the utube commitment, have already tried a couple of test films with my two digital cameras and a long lead mic with some success but need to put in some decent presentation, which does take considerable practice to effect. But my thanks to you for providing the inspiration. Regards both to you and your wife (keep up the Totley dancing !

It was still a nice explore, Pat. I also appreciate you pointing out your stick. A good stick is invaluable whether exploring culverts or hiking. I do a lot of hiking in the mountains and have a 7' stick cut from the trunk of a sapling in an area destined to be cleared out for development. I call it a stick , but it's more like a pole. Being dried out, it's not too heavy to bring along. It helps when navigating hills, crossing streams, and even encountering wildlife. I have used it to keep rattlesnakes at bay, for example.

Love the videos, I'm 55, those remind me of when I used to walk the creeks in Eastlake , a subdivision of Birmingham Alabama in the U.S. when I was between 12 and 15 or 16. Been a long time, there is a culvert under 84th st just past 1st ave no by Eastlake park that I never had the nerve to go into, it's oval shaped and it's right under the bridge where east lake police precinct used to be. It's downright creepy looking.

Thank you for today's video. I appreciate all of the effort you put into making your videos, seems to me you travel double or triple the distance because of set up and take down of the cameras. I enjoy being able to see places of the world that most people never get to see, but thanks to your adventurous spirit we can all enjoy these unseen places.

Sir Pat, hat's off. You've done it again! Your are a very unique individual and your videos are very educational and interesting to watch. Thank you very much. Having said that, I was wondering whether you had a helping hand in shooting those videos. If you don't, I'd suggest you find one for efficiency of shooting and God forbids if you suffered a heart attack, electrocution or accident in a covert, at least there would be someone to call the ambulance. I just don't want you to get hurt. Also, if you accept donations, please let me know how I can contribute.

Thanks for those very kind words and concern, but I, am happy working on my own, no distractions, and I can work at my own pace. It may not always appear, but I do risk access these explores, and although there is some risk, I have no intention of getting hurt in anyway. Thank you again for your caring words, all the best Pat
