I think Kammler had a lot on his plate already, to have him build bunkers for the top brass as well would be a waste of resources and a distraction. They are still impressive though. Thinking about it, imagine if they spent the resources (people/materials) on Kammlers projects instead of air raid shelters, how much further they would have been ahead in finishing the tunnels. Thats assuming that the tunnels we see today are not just sacrificial tunnels for the Allies and the real ones are still hiding behind false walls.

Tino, You are becoming very good at telling a story as you show the footage and these are the videos that I find really interesting. Thanks for the hard work

Recently you were offering breakdowns of labor for bunker building. Please check out this paper. The Battle of Aschaffenburg Example of late World War II Urban Combat In Europe. I live there as a thirteen year old in 1969. I had opportunity to explore bunkers on the Main river and the hills to the west of Aschaffenburg. The big bunkers had been leveled after the war, but were still intact down in the lower levels. I had worm down through the collapsed portions to get to the undisturbed construction. What a neat place for a thirteen year old boy explore. I really appreciate the history you are cataloging. Thank you so much.

RIESE ITS A NUMBERS GAME, was the last time I think you covered it and you have left us hanging! It does mention at the end, “Riese mountains to be continued,” can I ask, when will this be? Do you have more information for us? More to reveal? Is there work going on behind the scenes to find the missing poured concrete? Or do you think you have you done all you feel you can to bring details of Project Riese to us?

Tito when I was stations in the FRG 1972 to 1977 my wife and I spent a week in B-garden and stayed at the Gen Walker Hotel. This was in 1975. I took the bunker tour which was given by a SS Captain who was stationed with the guard detachment there. He said that the bunkers systems were built by Italian miners and mining engineers. It looks a lot different now and I still have the tour map you showed. There were still picks stuck in the wall on the left side of the wall when you first entered pasted the MG position. The tour ended where the service elevator was. (There was no bridge. Yes that is (or was the gas ) the gas particulate filter.

He was in the United States reported living on a military installation.. I'm guessing he was a liability more than an asset as time went on and there realized he out lived his welcome. Remember the United States prevented these people from being prosecuted for war crimes so that they could go to the Moon before the Russians...What were they going to do with them... You realize the complete Saturn rocket program was designed by Nazis... The same people that killed millions of Jews ...Kammler cut a deal and was able too live or should I say exist. Von Braun had pictures taken with Hitler and every Evel Nazi in Germany and JFK And every American leader.... just googled it that says it all

I'm not sure of the original source, but some years after the war, someone commented about the "acquisition" of suddenly unemployed German (and other) scientists and engineers. "The Russians got their Nazi scientists, the Americans, French and British got "their" Nazi scientists" .... and away they all went, rapidly building on the work of the previous decade and a half. One irony was that NOBODY wanted Porsche's "Volkswagen" plant, and the rest is history. Also interestingly, post-war Germany became the home of "world' cars for Ford and General Motors. GM's Opel plant produced the "Commodore" series starting in the late 1950s. These were engineered to be sold into markets directly or made in Off-shore GM plants (like Australia) as an alternative to the more generously-proportioned US vehicles or the much smaller, under-powered and under-engineered British designs. Ford's "Taunus" became the "Falcon" in Australia and, eventually, the "Taurus" in the US.

You are quite right about kamler. If he were building Hitler and leadership bunkers, the USA would not have tapped on his designs and expertise right after the war, since the building of leadership bunkers in the USA started in full force after the Cuban missile crisis, not before. They were just relocating via airplane key figures. But the USA did start underground facilities in the late 1940s for military purposes and to test weapons.

@@tinostruckmann Yeah seing all of the atlantic wall fortifications can take days and days of driving. Landscape here is not exactly open and fast driving through. East side has more open roads compared to the west where i live in (Bergen) There is lots of installations around here. And all the way up north to the "Adolf kanonen" in Harstad. One of the only remaining large caliber guns here (40.6cm). The one just outside my city "Fjell festning" had the "Bruno" turret from the ship "Gneisenau". Only shame is the turret got dissmantled and is no longer. Only some armor plates remain stacked at the site. But even so the complex is impressive. One of the larger ones built. And some other forts are scattered around my town as it is a coastal city. Also last city the "bismarck" visited before being sunk. Lots of war history in my town. Also a huge explosion was in the center of town. My grandmother barrely survived. Only because she was on the opposite side of the house durring the explosion. A cargo vessel named "voorbode" had 120 something tons of explosives onboard that exploded. Even though such ships was not allowed inside the port. But due to poor inspections etc it was allowed to port because of needed repairs. If you search Bergen and voorbode. You will get photos of how bad that was. My grandmothers house had only the chimnystone left. Rest burned down. Same with basically every other neighbur. Also a large uboat facility remains. Repurposed now. Would actually be a fun day or two exploring all those places again. Been a while.

@tinostruckmann
2 жыл бұрын
actually that is an interesting question, some old ones have been renovated and quite a few cold war bunkers also. There is a bit of a difference in what was built during the war and now, main issue is that than the Germans especially were building to withstand air raids, and today people build bunkers for a number of reasons but mainly to protect themselves from people I suppose, today's bunkers focus more on sustainability, food storage supplies and secrecy. and they are smaller. except for the super rich. and made from cheaper materials, plastics, fiberglass etc. most would not withstand a direct bomb hit from a tall boy. I will try and set up some visits with those constructing these bunkers today and compare them with than. It might be fun.
@tedrice1026
2 жыл бұрын
Retreating to a bunker for an air raid is one thing, but when you have to go underground and remain while the enemy over-runs the land above and occupies it, you have already lost and might just as well surrender and remain out in the air and sun. The Nazis seem to have realized this, as most that could have tried to hold out left the bunkers empty and tried to flee the country. Then or now, there is little point to bunkers except to withdraw temporarily from air attacks. Does anyone in the US government really believe they are going to withdraw into Mt. Weather and come out when it is over and start running the nation again? If they are lucky enough to survive, there will be no nation when they come out and no one who survives is going to listen to them.

Well, they certainly equipped most of the allied combatants. (And do not overlook Canada). A look at the materiel production figures in that time frame is enlightening. Start with Ford's Willow Run plant and go from there. From an isolationist, ill-equipped, standing start in 1940, through fighting on land, sea and air on TWO fronts, to nuking Japan in 1945 is quite an achievement of combat capability development and LOGISTICAL over-match. As an Australian, I am very aware of the role the US played in saving our bacon. My mother went straight from "business college" to the typing pool in McArthur's Brisbane headquarters. My father was a vehicle mechanic in an artillery regiment. He and his old comrades had lots of stories about the amazing largess of the US ordnance system. Because of the "Europe First" US policy, a lot of the troops sent to the south-west Pacific (and Australia) were greener than Kermit the frog. "Peace-time" national Guard units were thrown into battle in the New Guinea jungles with little or no training for such an event. But, they fought as best they could and the survivors learned VERY fast. And everywhere they went, they built airfields, small hospitals, roads, bridges, water supplies, etc. Then they would pack up end go to the next place and do it all again. Yes, the "Hollywood" view is skewed, but the output from that Fantasy Factory was only really possible because of US industrial power and the "loose change" that the audiences were willing to spend on the product. On more than one occasion Stalin remarked that he wanted a film industry like Hollywood. He grasped the awesome manipulative power of film VERY early on. Hitler had Leni Riefenstahl and a few others. Well, Stalin actually got his wish, posthumously, but the "machine" is still in Hollywood.
