The crazy, the British. But how great! With wonderful music, enthusiastic people full of love for their country and an incomparable atmosphere. we poor Germans can no longer allow ourselves such honest patriotism, even if the post-war generation is not responsible for these terrible crimes of the Nazis. meanwhile we have been stripped of our identities and are being fooled by a corrupt government with no dignity or pride. I am all the more delighted with such images and hope that these enviable Britons will continue to proudly wave their flags.

No one seems to remember why Sarah Walker was dressed as she was (or they're deliberately not mentioning it). This was 1989, the bicentenary of the French Revolution. Sarah was dressed in long, thick stripes of red, white and blue - a representation of the French tricolor! Only at the very end of "Rule, Britannia!" does her dress miraculously transform into the flag of the UK. Are there any French viewers out there who noticed?

Actually you are bang on: the dress was designed to mimic the French tricolour because this recording was made at the Last Night celebration in 1989 - the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution - and the dress was a conscious tribute to mark the occasion. Only at the very end does it transform into the flag of the UK. Not many people remember that fact (or, give the current state of Anglo-French relations, choose to do so!).

It may be a dirge but I cannot see what you mean when you say "God save the Queen" is german. The first man to publish it, Henry Carey in 1744 (roughly the same times "Rule Britannia" was written), was English; there is a French claim without evidence that they wrote it in the 1680s and there is a counterclaim that it dates from the early 1600s amongst the works of the English composer, John Bull. Beethoven quoted it much, much later in his "Wellington's Victory" (to represent the British victory over the French), was commissioned to write a set of keyboard variations on the tune in the early 19th century and numerous European states later adopted this anthem including the German Empire, Switzerland and Liechtenstein but its origin is definitely not german, so far as anyone knows.
