Thanks for sharing this. Part of Canadian railroading history and I'm sure people will be watching this years from now. Hopefully the other GMD-1s will find new homes rather than being scrapped.

I remember hearing that news, I was honestly impressed by just how _long_ they've had those things in service! As much as I will miss them, it's not too upsetting. They've had a very good, long life in dutiful service.

Great video. I really miss the GMD-1's. Those were what I saw the most of as a kid in Winnipeg. CN had a set run down the Letellier sub a couple times a week if I remember to service the UGG elevator at the south end of the city which is gone as well.

I lived in South Winnipeg at the time and I do remember as a kid riding my bike over to the Letellier sub and seeing an 1100 series GMD-1 come down to spot and lift the elevator. I also remember a set of 1400s coming down the line to Emerson and back in 1989 shortly after their arrival from remanufacture in Montreal

I lived in South Winnipeg, and I remember seeing trios of "ten hundreds" every day during a week in the summer working the 532 to Emerson at 10:00 a.m. every morning. Most of the time, I saw GP9s and/or GP38-2 s working 532 /533. I always loved the Holden- Burnett Airchime M3H horn on these units.

@@cpeast I don't remember GP-9's but I do remember seeing GP-38's run down the line. The GMD-1s I saw I think were the 1400's but I could be wrong, they may have been 1100's most of the time. I remember the crew one time stopping and going for dinner and coming back. My dad and I got to go for a boot down to the bridge at St.Norbert and back with them. I vividly remember a bunch of kids playing on the bridge and how they scattered when we came around the corner. Mind you we were only going 5 or 10 miles an hour. We stopped there and went back to the UGG elevator where we got off and the crew picked up their cut of cuts and went back up the line towards the Fort Rouge yard.

I remember the 4200, 4300, and 4400 series GP9s high short hood and long hood forward. I actually have several pictures of them. I would like to make a slide show with sound to put on KZitem. I'm not sure how. Of course, I went up there in the early eighties to early nineties.

@@cpeast Well if you ever get around to putting that slide show together and posting it I'd watch it for sure. I bet that would bring back some memories.
