This was my last visit to the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway with Type 4 Class 47 CoCo locomotive, British Railways No.47643 (D1970) and NCB No.19 Fife Area in its black livery both topping and tailing at their Santa Steam Trains Dec 2022.Sadly, I hear this may be the last running season for No.47643 before going into the retirement home at the Museum of Scottish Railways, Scotland’s largest railway museum.
I would like to thank all the SRPS members and railway staff at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway and anyone that views my KZitem channel a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.
Some History :- below
Type 4 Class 47 CoCo locomotive,British Railways No.47643 (D1970)BR ScotRail livery.
Built 1965, BR Crewe. 2,580 BHP.
A total of 512 Brush Type 4 locomotives were built between 1962 and 1968 at Crewe Works and the Brush Falcon Works in Loughborough. Although an early design, built without full prototype testing, this was a very successful class, and 512 locomotives were built. Type 4 locomotives were intended for express passenger work.
D1970 (renumbered 47269 and latterly 47643) was built at Crewe, and when delivered in October 1965 was allocated to Haymarket Depot, Edinburgh. Since then it has been based in Scotland for most of its life. The locomotive was withdrawn in 1991 with fire damage to the engine room wiring, and has been extensively restored.
This Class saw extensive use in Scotland on express passenger traffic, including use on push-pull services between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Some History :- below
0-6-0ST National Coal Board Area 7 (East Fife) No.19 spent most of its service life at the Bo'ness and Kinneil in a green livery.
Built 1954, Hunslet Engine Co., Leeds. Austerity design. Works No.3818.
The locomotive was supplied new to the NCB Area 7 (East Fife) at the Michael Colliery. It was overhauled at the Central Workshops, Dysart, in 1965, then returned to the Michael. After the disaster there, it was transferred to Wellesley Coal Preparation Plant where it remained until 1971, when it made its final move in NCB service to Comrie Colliery.
This is a standard World War Two austerity design of locomotive.
In a previous spell of traffic duty at Bo'ness, this locomotive carried a spurious British Railways livery and the number 68019.
Presently to date 2022 National Coal Board ,Fife Area No.19 is now in a Black livery.
