I left a family Thanksgiving dinner because it was so toxic. I told them so as I left. Since that day, the family has erupted with the nephews and nieces not putting up with the top down BS. It broke down the whole system of dysfunction and my siblings are in therapy. Moral of my story, "Confrontation is healthier than subjugation. Don't put up with dysfunction."

i kinda didnt get how or why the mom telling the story about the 14 people being murdered made the young son change his mind and want to stay or was it because of the pecan pie? also at the very end when the mom is shaking the big knife i was wondering what she was going to do with it, especially after her telling the story about the people being stabbed to death
@cipherklosenuf9242

Family murdered…pecan pie…OK, I’ll stay. Huh? I thought that was funny because the stereotypical “Hallmark Christmas” often relies on an abrupt transformation of a character to joyous that just doesn’t follow. Hallmark might offer, “Son, you’re right, it’s the thought that counts. I thought of you when I made pecan pie.” Cue watery eye and gentle smile…holiday glow. Viewers satisfied with such an abrupt transformation may not appreciate how annoying a scene like that is to someone who views it as lazy writing that trivializes real emotional burdens. Oversimplification isn’t viewed as comforting to people who dislike Hallmark. It’s satire.
