Hello from Oslo! It's almost Midsummer, so the days here are very long, and I wanted to show you what the night sky looks like at midnight.
Transcript: "Hello! My name is Andrew. I'm continuing making my travel vlog about traveling in Europe. Now, you might be wondering, why am I making a movie now, when it's probably around 8pm? [NB: it's dark, so it's hard to see, which is bad for a sign language video.] Right, but actually, if you look at the color of the sky, you might think it's around 8pm. Nope: right now, it's actually past midnight! See, it's 12:44am! That's crazy!
It's past midnight, so why... why can't you see the stars or the moon? In fact, I'm Norway, in the city of Oslo. Oslo is really far north; its latitude measurement is about 60°. So, summer days are very long. The sun sets really slowly, at maybe around 11pm or 12am. And [NB: this is not the sign for "and"; my bad!], if you were to go a little farther north, the sun wouldn't set at all! That's crazy! I love it! I never feel tired, never want to sleep. But anyway, I wanted to show you what it's like here in northern Europe. The days are long, and the days are fun. Bye now!"
Thanks to Dean for filming!
