In this video we have explained the Phase 2 restrictions, its impact, Singapore current Covid situation and vaccination drive.
Singapore reverts back to Phase Two (Heightened Alert) from July 22 to August 18, as a response to the rising number of new covid cases from emerging clusters
COVID-19 cases have been detected in at least 35 markets and food centres linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday.
According to MOH the return to tighter public health measures under Phase 2 is required as Covid 19 infections are likely to “rise sharply” at the current rate of transmission.
Stricter Measures Taken By Singapore:
1. Reduction of social gathering group sizes from a maximum of 5 persons to a maximum of 2 persons, with a cap of 2 distinct visitors per household per day. Grandchildren daily taken care of by their grandparents will not be counted towards this cap.
2. Work-from-home to remain the default at workplaces. Employers who need staff to return to workplaces need to ensure no cross-deployment at various worksites, and enforce different start times and flexible working hours. Social gatherings at workplaces will not be allowed.
3. No dine-in at all F&B establishments (including hawker centres and food courts), only takeaway and delivery options allowed.
4. No strenuous indoor exercise classes, including individuals and group indoor sports and exercise activities.
5. Mask-off personalised services (e.g. facials, saunas, make-up services) will not be allowed. This will not apply to medical and dental consultations that require patients to remove their masks.
6. Reduction of event sizes and event size caps, with mandatory pre-event testing (PET) for some cases. Playing of wind or brass instruments will not be allowed.
Viewpoint:
Singapore has been able to vaccinate a large chunk of their population and hence phase 2 otherwise MOH would have called for a Circuit Breaker or at least a Phase One.
Singapore is close to vaccinating two third of its population by national day, yet to achieve that target and hence the country is taking strict measures to combat the recent rising covid cases. And pushing it through the vaccination efforts.
50 percent of Singapore’s population has received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
According to an official statement -It is a good rate but needs to be higher, this percentage will be going up by 1 percent every day. In 2 weeks, it will be at 64 percent or more. That will put Singapore in a much stronger and resilient position when it will review the Phase 2 (HA) rules.
So in a nutshell we should welcome phase 2 and abide by restrictions for our own and loved one’s safety. Times are tough but hopes are high and remember this shall pass too!

Stay Safe!
