Hi Adam. Nice lunch spot, when I worked in a factory I found a quiet area for lunch which I used for several years, it had a low brick wall and after I finished eating I could lay back on the wall and zone out. First I’d hear the hubbub from the factory, then the birdsong would overpower that, then if I was doing well I would be able to hear a tractor ploughing or mowing or baling which would be a mile away. Then the two old ladies from the sewing room discovered my quiet area, damned if they didn’t drag their beach chairs out there and sit and discuss bloody soap operas all 45 minutes of the break! The moral, best not show people where you go if you want peace and quiet! Thanks for another great video. Cheers, Graham.

We have gulls just like that in Oregon. My daughter once dropped a Dorito on the beach. From way up the beach, out of sight, a seagull flew in and scooped it up. Within a few minutes there were a hundred of them flying around waiting for a chance. Just like yours. That was over 40 years ago. Funny what you remember.

Adam, have watched all your videos for a while and just wanted to share this. Graduated high school and fell into the trap of you have to go to college to be successful. Dropped out, had no passion for learning anything taught in the classes. Had no idea what I was going to do with my life, and fortunately landed a job in manufacturing. Because I knew some basic math I was given a job in the tool room, basic machining and metal working. Even then I thought of it as a gap filler and did not think of it as a career. Being on midnights I had a lot of time on my hands and started watching KZitem videos. Long story short, your videos have changed my life. I have found more passion watching your videos and putting them to practical use than I ever did in any class room. Your videos have changed my life brother, and I know this is what I want to do for a career. You should definitely consider branching out beyond KZitem. Your passion and talent are undeniable and could definitely change other people’s lives. Not enough focus is put into high schools, kids think they have no other options than to take out debt and go to college. Definitely an angle you could pursue, you have a natural ability of teaching and explaining things. I’ve been watching you for a couple years now and I don’t know why I feel the need to say this now, but thank you. Your videos make more of a difference than you know.

Great work there completed with thought and accuracy Adam. That 6 jaw is quite the tool for holding work right first time. I just watched a video entitled "Colchester Lathes Company". It describes how that company actually made their lathes back in the day. A fascinating film using techniques I had never heard of for finishing the accurate ways and gear teeth and how they cast the large pieces. Givi it a watch guys if you have the time. Stay safe all out there.

Adam, when you adjusted the gears and gel lubed them also, you made my day. You are a machinist for sure. As it it said, the little things make big things happen. I live in Michigan, surrounded by the Great Lakes, which are home to countless Ring-Bill gulls. My family was on Mackinac Island, which is in the northwest end of Lake Huron, right near Lake Michigan. We were at a picnic table. My 10-year-old son took his first bite out of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich, when BOOM, a gull snatched the _entire_ sandwich out of his hand, on-the-fly. Another time we bought a bag of popcorn to feed the gulls. Ha! That was a _mistake_ . My son threw a child's handful, onto the empty lawn, and a minute later there were gulls everywhere. There must have been 100 surrounding him.

I think wanting your fellow machinist's lathe chuck (or any other tool) is quite different from wanting your neighbour's wife. The latter is one human being that is unique, and emotionally complicated if you start having an affair. If you buy a lathe chuck of the same or similar kind to what Adam has, that's between you and your bank account (or the cash in your wallet, but mine very rarely has much more than about $50 in it, and the 6-jaw you get for $50 isn't the one I want... :) )

The victor lathe I just got has timing belts, not gears. But one improvement they made to that big gear is instead of having a nut in the back that you must loosen in order to move the middle gear, it turned into a hex nut on the front (where the cap screw on your lathe is) that you loosen which would allow the gears to be moved. Then you tighten it to lock it in place. Mine didn't come with any change gears and the Victor parts dealer in Taiwan wanted almost 300 dollars for a set of change gears (they said it has to be custom made), I said screw it, and went and bought the right kind of timing belt pulleys and machined it myself to fit the lathe. The part is only a few dollars from China.
