Quite the elaborate setup for such a simple lathe.

I’d say it’s a good manual lathe, what makes you say it’s so simple?

Thank you for the kind words Pierre, when I bought mine last year I watched your videos showing yours and it helped me understand the specifics of this beautiful lathe. This being the 3rd lathe that passed through my hands I must say it is by far my favourite, it is built exceptionally heavy for its capacity. I must also thank you for providing some documentation on the Passion-Usinages forum which includes my model T-37 specifically. My French is bad but good enough to understand the basics of what is said in those manuals.

I have made a spider for my lathe, including large threading and knurled thumbscrews. In the end, adjusting the screws (I put only three) takes a lot of time, but if the work is not well centered, it will still wobble too much. Not practical. I whish I could easily make a self-centering spider with cams or the like, but that would take even a lot more time. Next time I will try a rag in it as some suggested, or just turn bushes from nylon, holed for common sizes stock.

It’s original from the manufacturer, I did make the solid tool post to fit to it but I did not invent it

Mooi werk! Succes met je verdere ondernemingen 🎉 😊
I use a piece or 2 of punched steel angle and place it back far enough from lathe so it contains the rod and keeps it from whipping. I have it attached to my lathe bench. It can be mounted to wood or a wood 2x4 or whatever is necessary. If the holes are too small, just drill one to the size you need. Cheap, not as pretty, adjust as necessary, effective, less time to rig than making a short spider.

There are two buttons on the saddle, one to start forward, the other tho start reverse. Stopping is with the foot brake.

The back of the spindle on this lathe does not rotate, which is why a bearing is needed

If the stock is small, slide it inside a pipe with a larger ID and then clamp the pipe to a steadyrest... the pipe prevents the stock whip harmonics. Why do you keep showing us the caliper when you don't tell us the target diameters?
@ED_T
Жыл бұрын
I'm quite happy with my solution for the whipping problem. Although there are many ways to solve this problem I'm not sure how you would cut the workpiece when there is a pipe covering it. Before machining each part I show a technical drawing with all of the target dimensions, feel free to reference that. The caliper is also in incremental mode for most of the operations. That means the target dimension is set to zero, it makes it very easy to plan how many cuts you need.
