In this video, where we visited the largest slave market in Latin America, we toured the historic district of the city of Salvador, where 80% of the population is black. From the 1500s to the 1800s, black people brought from their homeland, West Africa, for 5 dollars, were counted as slaves by the Portuguese for 100 dollars to work in the fields. When the slave trade, which was one of the most profitable trades of that period, was banned in 1861, the city became poorer and has survived to the present day.
