This almost breaks my heart, I SO miss those days, NYC 76-83. Especially in the late 70s, the hustle RULED the dance floors, and the Puerto Ricans RULED the hustle. NOBODY could touch them, they owned that dance. King & Varick Forever...!

Hustle Partners Dancing was created by them PR's in NYC in the beginning of the 1970's. They started putting some Salsa steps into American Soul Music due they liked partners dancing instead of the silly, simplistic, repetitive Disco Dancing also called "Free Style Disco Dancing". Around 1975, Eddie Vega, a PR Ballet Dancer put Ballet style mov's in it and won many competitions. It was and still is a classy way to dance Instead of the Free Style "American Disco Dancing" which most men don't like to dance anyway. Women, yes. I taught Latin Hustle to many friends. It became the most popular way to dance in our 2002 Single Dances in PA.

I love all the techniques, very smooth with excellent execution. Anyone can dance slow and safe but pushing the envelope and doing something few others do or can inspires me to keep working on the craft and bring more young people to the dance. The general hustle social dance crowd is kind of old and slow to put it nicely. Then again, working to improve at partner dancing requires a certain maturity. The song is M people's "Excited".

Thanks for the kind words, sadly it is true that we are getting old and slow....I am trying to produce new patterns that is within the formation of this dance so it will keep dancers interested, I think the lack of support for this dance has something to do with same old music but more so on how hustle dancers have been doing same 5 to 6 patterns over and over for years, if I was doing that I would be bored too. I hope that other pros especially the ones at Eastcoast would try to do the same.

I tell u why the latins are good at the hustle,if u look at salsa dancing you can see where the hustle came from,its a variation of salsa dancing. My next point is u don't have to be latin to dance the hustle and the Puerto Ricans don't rule the dance either! Thats right! born and raised in Wash Hght's (Irish-German) I used to burn the floor with your girlfriends! How you like that!

Salsa Partnerwork... and Many of Hustle... CAME FROM SWING... Specially.. West Coast Swing... Salsa Footwork... Many Of It.. Same From Tap Dancing and Old Classical Movie Musicals In Cabaret, Jazz and Tap...
@salsagoals
3 жыл бұрын
@@seijen1904 Actually, the standard footwork steps in the U.S. styles of Salsa (NY, LA) are derived from the dance of the Cuban "Son". When Mambo dancing first became popular at NYC's Palladium Ballroom (starting in roughly 1947), the base of the dance was the Cuban Son. However, due to the diversity of communities who danced there, (Puerto Rican, African-American, Jewish, Irish, Italian, etc.) other influences like Lindy Hop, Tap, Jazz and Ballet were reportedly integrated into it. When Salsa dancers take a break from partner work and dance apart from each other, those solo steps (or "shines") are influenced by Tap and Jazz to some extent. In fact, even the name ("shines") is said to come from Tap. But, there are influences of other things as well such as Afro-Cuban Rumba steps, etc. Also, Salsa "shines" are important, but not more important than the basic Salsa time step which is derived from Cuban Son. Latin Hustle pioneer Willie "Marine Boy" Estrada told me very recently that, since the Hustle didn't initially have turns when Puerto Ricans from the South Bronx first started developing it in the early 1970s, those initial Latin Hustle turns were influenced by Salsa. Salsa didn't come from Hustle. Apparently, NY Mambo dancing (which later developed into modern NY Salsa dancing) came first and the 2nd generation Mambo Palladium-era dancers, as Eddie Torres Sr (the primary pioneer of NY Style Salsa) told me, started developing partner work before Latin Hustle came around. Many of the Latin Hustle pioneers were also 2nd generation NY Mambo Dancers, so they were familiar with both dances. And, that developing Mambo partner work was apparently used in the creation of Latin Hustle turn patterns. Eventually, as Latin Hustle became just "Hustle" and gained popularity, of course new Hustle turns were developed. And though many of those turns noticeably found their way back into Salsa dancing, it appears that those newer turns were simply going back to their roots. Both Salsa and Latin Hustle, two related dances which were (at least initially) developed within New York's Puerto Rican community, basically fed off of each other. Did much of it come from West Coast Swing? Probably. I don't doubt it at all. Especially since some elements of Lindy Hop had already started to influence NYC Mambo dancing back in the 40s and 50s. ▼
