Fantastic interview! Very refreshing to hear from a fellow Jr., and even more so from an India-based artist. So proud to call this man a friend!

The problem of being employed as a VFX artist in India is that, your salary might range from RS 20,000 - 40,000 ( $240 - $485 ) depending upon your position & most of the time the VFX companies are located in Bangalore and you have to move to bangalore , where you rent an apartment & the salary you get won't be able meet your food & rental cost. Also sending money back home is not even thinkable. Apart from that the amount of stress the department heads put on your shoulder & the daily reminder that you will get your name in the end credits of Big Blockbuster movies , which no one reads will drive you crazy for sure!

Sounds brutal, how does that compare to other tech related industries in India? Do you think it's specific to VFX?

It is a big problem. And the problem stems from many things. One being from the client abroad, the deals taken by your studios and the value given to you as an artist. There could also be a lot of artists than jobs available so this means studios have higher power in what they pay. It all stems down to value really. Prioritise health and value where possible, or a balance, where needing to provide for family is necessary.

@@TheVFXArtistsPodcast Most of these traits can be found in other IT companies, but most often times the time you work infront of a computer is just way higher in this industry when compared to other companies in India. Lower wages is a common thing in India, even for a person with Bachelors / Masters finding a job above RS 20,000 - 30,000 is just difficult. As VFX is a combination of both creative & technological work, stress on the creative part is much more draining when compared to other IT/ tech related jobs. This inturn leads to overworking of brain & leading to stress and depression. These are the harsh truth of being a VFX Artist in India which no one talks about !
