Sailed on the Norway years ago. I can say the grandeur and beauty of her French design were everywhere. She was magnificent, smoothest ship I've ever sailed on, and I've been on plenty. It never ceases to amaze me, some of the most beautiful things built by man are cast aside like yesterdays garbage too be destroyed. Pray for the SS United States!!!!

It's all ker-ching, ker-ching, today. The France was about national pride. Her building was subsidised at a time when airlines were already eating in to transatlantic traffic. The writing was on the wall. She was a revenue loser.

Why this ship giant?
@Daniel_Huffman
2 жыл бұрын
She was designed to be the flagship of not just her company, but of her nation’s merchant fleet. And while she wasn’t the largest or the fastest, she was the longest and perhaps the most luxurious. Unlike cruise ships, ocean liners were built as symbols of national pride to represent a nation’s standing in the world.

As of now, I don't really like the SS France. Why? Norwegian Cruise Lines chose the SS France over the SS United States. And now, the SS United States is rotting away in Philadelphia. I personally think that the SS United States was the more beautiful ship, and the SS France was one of the reasons that caused it to end up where it is today, so yeah...
