I’ve always loved Stan and Ollie and enjoyed introducing them to my grandchildren. Just out of interest, I’m a retired vicar now but in my time, I served a church in Bishop Auckland, where Stan’s family lived for a time. I used to baptise children in the very font that Stan was baptised in - that always gave me a thrill ☺️

I count myself fortunate. I belong to a generation that grew up when Laurel and Hardy's short features and films were still being shown regularly on the BBC here in the UK. I would have been about 5 years old the first time i watched them and laughed. The watching and the laughter have never stopped for me.

A really interesting documentary. My dad knew Oliver Hardy. They met when Hardy moved from Georgia to Jacksonville, Florida. At the time, Jacksonville was a thriving film town and the railroad hub for the southern U.S. My dad worked for the railroad. He lived in the downtown area and had a favorite cafe he would eat dinner (supper: the evening meal) at 2 or 3 times a week. That's where he met Hardy, who was not famous then. My dad said they both had dinner about the same time and one day he was there when Hardy came in. The place was full, and he asked my dad if he could sit in the little booth with him as they had previously spoken several times and had a nodding acquaintance. Afterwards they would dine and chat several times before Hardy moved on to New York And L.A. Long story short, my dad did Oliver a small favor one evening which Hardy apparently never forget. After he moved, he would write on occasion I think there were about 20 letters total and a couple of photos, including one of him and Stanley from one of their movies. All of this was long before I came along as I was from my dad's 2nd marriage, and he was approaching 60 when I was born. Mom was 20 years younger. As far as I know they never met again. I've no idea what happened to the letters and photos, but these are nice memories from my dad.

I am so glad you're doing the history of Laurel and Hardy. Because I used to follow Stan Laurel's daughter with a gentleman who would discuss the history of Laurel and Hardy on You Tube. Older folk still talk about Stan and Oille coming to Belfast in Ireland in the early 1950s - they had time for everyone - they took a walk around the city center and chatted with all the children and grown up's - they remain well-loved - unlike some - they were just as happy talking to ladies and gentlemen working as extras on their films as rushing off to spend time with other big names - pure class as performers and considered gentlemen and that's as good a title as one should hope for

Sincerely to Bob Satterfield/Ross Owen/and Matt Holt: God bless you guys for this well done video. Just last week I said to my youngest son when we were in Hollywood on unrelated business that I desire to hunt down the L&H filming sites soon! Your video was a wonderful surprise. I noted immediately that you introduced the “2nd most” inquired-of filming site at the beginning. After a few minutes I FFWD’d only to discover that what HAS to be the #1, The Music Box steps, was not in here but its location is teased delightfully at the end of this video so I expect you guys will be filming a longer segment on that in the future. I was thrilled that you used what is my most cherished Hollywood tome, Laurel and Hardy, by McCabe, et. al. Like others commented, I introduced my sons to L$H and will God willing do so for my first grandson when he’s ready. Back in the late ‘70’s a best friend and I joined the Sons of the Desert as teenagers. These two gentlemen (especially Stan) have shaped my comedy stylings and I love kidding around so I get to emulate them both a lot. I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am that this showed up on my YT recommendations today! Great work.

Nice tour from a time When Comedy Was King. One missing from the tour was the stairs from The Music Box. I wonder if the location for the great pie fight from Battle of the Century is known. Fun fact about Battle of the Century. A young actor was in California trying to get into films. He had a few appearances but mostly as uncredited extra. He appeared in the fight sequence from Battle of the Century right behind Stan and Ollie's corner. Shortly after the actor went back East. He met his future partner for his own famous comedy team on the way back. The extra? Lou Costello. Not much detail, but you can still tell it is him by the physical moves he does. Just a little trivia of how Abbott and Costello came to be. It is amazing that so many buildings a the same as they were almost a hundred years ago.
